Windows Network shares

What version of Windows?

Try LinNeighbourhood or use the Mandrake Control Centre to find the shares.

Otherwise use the mount.smbfs command to mount them:

#mount -t smbfs -o username=user,password=pass //host/share /mnt/target

The -o option shouldn't be necessary for completely open shares.

Also make sure that you can ping the Windows machine and that your shares are setup properly. :deal:

I don't understand how to install Linneighborhood. I think I have installed it but don't find it anywhere to use it. Was hoping it would put a desktop icon up there to use.

Do you use KDE? If so try:

open up konqueror (or click your Home icon)

In the address bar type

smb:/// [hit enter]

If samba is running it should show you your network.

If you have lisa running try:

lan:/// [hit enter]

Not sure about nautilus but it would think it would work in that too. Also Linneighborhood is old and busted - new hotness is SMB4K

:P :P

LinNeighbourhood is a little old and bust, but it's nice because it doesn't ONLY show samba network connections, but all of 'em.

One day there will be a good global network browser for Linux... one day...

I want see all the macs, 'nix boxes and windows pieces of shite on my network in one place...
