deiz
I've just bought a Zoom Ext v.92 serial modem, it works fine in windows, but when i try to dial out in linux it seems like it gives up before detecting the carrier, then tries again, i ran 'dmesg', no reference there to ppp and upon boot eth0 fails (wotever that is, any link)? Any ideas or solutions? Net on Linux would be great as i'd then be able to start leaving windoze for good. help!! i've got mdk 10, and kernel 2.6.7-3 smp thanks deiz
streeter
Serial modems are generally OK on linux. Couple of questions: What dialler are you using (Kppp? If not, give it a go, and post the output from the log window.) Are you using the same modem initialisation string that you have in Windows? Re eth0; this is your network card and shouldn't affect dialling. Chris
deiz
thanks for the quick reply, i'm using kppp, here are the output on the terminal window: 'AT2 OK ATM1L1 OK ATDT14700808....(ispnumber)' then it gives up and tries again over and over again. .... interestingly... if i log in as 'root', it dials up fine and i can browse to google... so i guess it's a permission problem somewhere? any ideas now then?? thanks
deiz
I've solved it B)... my modem timeout was set to 15 seconds , which was obviously too low for to dial up in time, it's now set to 30 seconds
