papaschtroumpf
When I had mandrake 9.2 I could send mail from the command line typing: mail -s "this is a test" someone@some.address.org < test_file_to_send After installing mandrake 10, this doesn;t work, it tells me it can't find "/usr/sbin/sendmail". When I type mail at the command prompt with no options, it tells me there is not mail. I'm guessing that this means that my mdk10 install includes the ability to retrieve mail but not to send it outside of the machine? Should I simply do "urpmi sendmail" or was sendmail replaced with something else?
papaschtroumpf
allright, let me rephrase this in a simpler way: how do I send email from the command line under mdk10?
DragonMage
sendmail is not the default mail server for Mandrake ever since what.. 8.0? Postfix is. However, sendmail should be available in your installation cds. Just urpmi it and all should be well.
papaschtroumpf
how do I send mail from the command line then?
MrWhisp
There is a perl script at http://caspian.dotconf.net/menu/Software/SendEmail/ which can be used to send emails from the command line without having a mailserver installed. /MrWhisp

I don't remember ever having to set anything up on previous versions to get it to work but maybe I did it somewhat unknowingly (like by setting up Kmail or Evolution?). Just trying to learn more. The man page is not very helpful
