Guest Stomp357
I have the 9.1 version of Mandrake on CD. I had burned these disc back then thinking I might try my hand at learning Linux. I briefly tried it, but gave up quickly. Now I'd like to give it another try since I have a second PC to work on it with. I see that there is now a 10.0 version. I was wondering if everytime a new version is released, if I have to burn a new set of disc to upgrade, or does the updater program update the 9.1 version to the latest version? Ixthusdan
A loaded question. Yes, you can utilize urpmi to update the system, but the results vary from so-so to disaster! The absolute best way is to fresh install. I have my partitions arranged so that special programs and what-not are not erased by the install. I have: / /home /usr swap When I perform the install, /home is never formatted, so I keep nice stuff there, including back-ups of my /boot and /etc/lilo.conf, and /etc/fstab. If you have nothing worth saving, start over and make the apprpriate changes to the partition set-up.
