papaschtroumpf
The printer is connected to my windows machine and I can see it when browsing using LinNeighbourhood but printerDrake can't see it.
Gowator
I dont really know windows and printer sharing but I know how to do it in reverse! as a guess you can set it up using the config by specifiying SAMBA as type and then the IP address or name you see in LinNeighbourhood! papaschtroumpf
got it working: I found the "expert" settings in the "add printer wizard" and was able to type the information in by hand. Looks like the ML-1710 was added as a supported printer in mdk10, no more manually installing ppd files, yeah!
Gowator
erm it worked in 9.2 as well. I got mine really cheap at XMAS i a sale for £50 ($75) with a full toner... that was a bargain! I just plugged it into the usb and it autodetedcted and it even says linux on the box :D
papaschtroumpf
weird, didn't work easily for me in 9.2,the printer didn't appear in the list of supported printers without addid a ppd file (which was based on another printer, maybe the 1210 or something). I never tried the drivers provided by Samsung because I kept reading bad things about them (and they're not open source). anyway, it's a moot point since it seems to work fine in mdk10 (except for the autodetection bit, not sure why that is).
