But, I cannot reach anything outside of the box... here are my details: Mandrake 10.0 Network card identified as: National Semi|DP83810 10/100 aliased as eth0 route gives: 192.168.0.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 127.0.0.0 * 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo (then, the computer pauses for a long time... and then shows...) default 192.168.0.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 ifconfig shows: eth0 Link encap: Ethernet <snip....> inet addr: 192.168.0.169 Bcast: 192.168.0.255 Mask: 255.255.255.0 UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU: 1500 METRIC:1 RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:4294967285 overruns:0 frame:4294967285 TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:106 overruns:0 carrier:0 <snip...> RX bytes:0... TX bytes:0... Interrupt: 10 Base address: 0x4000 When doing a network restart or network restart, I get the eth0 [ OK ] ... Oh, when I do: ping -c 5 192.168.0.169 I get: PING 192.168.0.169: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.240 ms <snip> When I do: ping -c 5 192.168.0.1 I get: PING 192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1) 56(84) bytes of data/ From 192.168.0.169 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable <snip> My ifcfg-eth0 file: DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=static IPADDR=192.168.0.169 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 NETWORK=192.168.0.0 BROADCAST=192.168.0.255 BOOT=yes MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=yes WIRELESS_ENC_KEY="" So... Mandrake network wizard is doing/not doing something, and I don't know what... Your Ip address is OK, your net card is OK, your routing table is OK. (by the way, "route -n" will get rid of that delay, by not using hostname lookups) So, all I can ask for is the output of "iptables -nvL" , iptables -nvL -t nat" and what is at 192.168.0.1 - a router/modem/another PC ? arctic Posted June 15, 2004 Report Share Posted June 15, 2004 Hey, Chris... it is not his fault that it doesn't work. :P And... as you are (in my opinon) an expert with networking stuff, it would be useful to have one howto available for download. I browsed through the net before I posted my problems here and I didn`t find any howto for networking for mdk10. the newest one i found was for mdk8.2. If it's a new setup, you may have a bad cable, you may need a crossover cable if at the other end is another Ethernet card, or the other device may not work or respond. kmc77 Posted June 19, 2004 Report Share Posted June 19, 2004 First question. Did you mess with the "share a connection" option? If so, it may be something as simple as shorewall. Even if you don't have shorewall blocking anything, try having it block everything, then go back and completely open it up. Reset your machine (probably not necessary, but old Win habbits die hard). When you get back in, and if it isn't fixed by this point, go into mcc --> network & Internet --> monitor connections, and then hit connect. This happened to me a couple of months ago. Shorewall showed as open, but it was blocking everything in and out. Close as I can tell, it happened when I messed with the "share a connection", but it could have been something else.
