Guest jprior2001
ALL, I have a Vivitar 3632 digital camera that functions under the usb mass storage. I know this for a fact because it worked under the same assumption in FC1 under a 2.4 series kernel. Also, it said so on the Vivitar website. First, I tried letting the computer boot up first and then ran # tail -f /var/log/messages, then I plugged in my camera...nothing. I left it alone for about a half hour, cam back, still nothing new. So I do some web searching and realize that in Mandy it should work almost plug and play like. I made sure that hotplugging was enabled..rebooted with the camera plugged in. Logged into to KDE..nothing. More searching...something about supermount not quite sure. I tried even just assumming that the camera was under /dev/sda1 (b1 and c1). Still nothing. I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I have searched for answers but nothing. Any ideas? I can run any command you want and post the results. The main error i got in trying to mount was "/dev/sda1 is not a valid block (or super device). Thanks in advance for the help.

Gowator
those are all just to gather info ...btw. not mean to actually fix it (unless the hotplug does) if you do that and post the results we can start looking a bit deeper for ya.. if anythings not clear or i seem to be speaking another language just ask :D from your first post you souind pretty OK with linux overall so Im guessing the level to aim answers !! Gowator
OK you have no usb-storage loaded, this probably means you will need to add it to /etc/modules.conf but it should be automatically detected. Firstly do you have any other usb devices ?? it seems like your mouse or keyb or both are usb. the usb hotplug gave no errors so thats good I suppose... the trick now is to work out if its say USB2 not working as opposed to USB1.1 which is probably the keyb and mice ... Also there is often a bios setting for USB1 or USB2 or both! maybe give that a check....
Guest jprior2001
My mouse and keyboard are both hooked up to the PS/2 ports in the back (had to get the install of MK10 OE to work). I also deactivated the USB support in the bios. I'll change those settings and see what happens.
Gowator
You probably have 2x usb settings, one for USB keyb support (leave it off) and the other for the USB support vis 1.1/2.0 or both....
Guest jprior2001
Ok, I tried re-enabling and disabling the usb in my BIOS multiple times w/o sucess. I am kinda at a loss any ideas out there in cyber space|? Justin
Guest jprior2001
I went back to FC2 and all is fine. Weird. Must be some weird hardware incompatibility.
Gowator
have you still got MDK installed ? it could be productive to see how its detected in FC and then try in mandy ??
