I can help you, I have the same printer and it's awsome.

It's super easy.

Step 1. open up the MAndrake Control Center

Step 2. open the software manager

Step 3. If you've done any updates, skip to step 4, if not, click on updates, choose a mirror, and let the update database update itself.

Step 4. Close out the updater, and open the installer.

Step 5 install kernel 2.6.3-13mdk or whatever the latest version is, and why not intall a matching kernel source while you're there?

Step 6. Reboot.

Step 7. Enjoy one of the best value multi function device in production.

Explanation. It's pretty simple realy. HP has freely distributed drivers for the 1210 and they are included on the CD's for mandrake 10. IT's all automaticaly installed for you. The problem is, there's an error in the default kernel that has to do with the way it's handled. It's not realy a USB printer as far as linux is concerned. It's actulay a PTAL printer.

PTAL is a port set up by the low level device driver from HP.

ANyway, the newer kernel fixes the error and everything is cool.

Alternatively to above, you could switch to the 2.4 series kernel that's on the CD's if you have too slow of an internet connection for downloading the kernel
