NeoXP
Is there someone out there who is using X11 instead of Xfree86? How can I switch to X11 (I already found an RPM on the ftp-source, so I will be able to install it), do I have to uninstall Xfree86, do I start X11 the same way as I start Xfree86. Last (but not least) is there a good reason to switch to X11 (besides the license-issue)?
Qchem
I don't know what you mean. Isn't XFree86 an implementation of X11?
NeoXP
OK, I think I'm did not have the right name! How can I explain? At first ML 10.0 should be released with Xfree86 4.4.0. After some issues with licence ML decided to go back to Xfree86 4.3.0, but I have heard of an alternative X-server and I thougt it is X11. Correct me if I'm wrong and post the right name of the alternative x-server.
Qchem
I think you mean the xorg X server.
NeoXP
Correct, I found something on www.x.org, but in there downloadsection they speak of X11R6.7.0, so I figured that their x-server is named X11. Anyway do you (or anyone else) have experience with an alternative x-server?
Qchem
I'm running xorg's X server, but only because its the default for FC2. It may be possible to install it on Mandrake, but you won't be able to completely replace XFree as that will break many rpms. There is currently minimal differences between the two (xorg is forked from just before the license change) so I wouldn't bother - thats up to you of course though. bvc
I never finished trying because there's really no difference from XFree86. http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=14366 I'm sure it can be done.
