Guest Snarx
Hi. I am trying to install OpenOffice.org 1.0.1 on my 8.2 Mandrake linux box, but I have failed so far. Having extracted as root the OOo_1.0.1_LinuxIntel_install.tar (which I got from the OOo home site) I go in /tmp/install and type: ./install --prefix=/opt Then, the shell prints the following : Installation starting, please be patient glibc version: 2.2.4 Initializing installation program.......... /tmp/sv001.tmp/setup.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libvos2gcc3.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Obviously, something is missing. So, what should I do ? Thanks in advance
fuzzylizard
In order to do that kind of install you be root. To do this, type in su. It will then ask for you password, and bingo you are root. Then type in: ./install --perfix=/opt and everything should work.

fuzzylizard
No problem. Remember, whenever you are trying to install software outside of your home directory, you always need to be root to do it.
