I have successfully installed Smart Link Linux driver on Mandrake 10, and after that I had manually need to make link " ln -sv /dev/ttySL0 /dev/modem " but he should do it during install, and now after every reboot I need to manually load modules with command " modprobe slamr " and after that " /usr/sbin/slmodemd " ? why is it happening and how to solve it? arthur Posted May 20, 2004 Report Share Posted May 20, 2004 put "slamr" in /etc/modprobe.preload, that should do it. As for the second thing, put "/usr/sbin/slmodemd &" to your .xinitrc or any startup script you use. They have their own chipset actually, lucent Agere if I am not mistaken The drivers are located in this site ftp://ftp.smlink.com/linux/unsupported/ For laptops with kernel 2.4.x, I prefer version 2.7.10 (2.7.14 just doesn't work). streeter Posted June 6, 2004 Report Share Posted June 6, 2004 Think it depends on your particular modem - I have an Agere 5457 on my Thinkpad R40e - slmodem worked great with a 2.4 kernel, but won't work with kernel 2.6 on my particular chipset.
