I have the NVidia Gforce4 MX440 card working with the drivers from the club and a little fix in the X11 config (nv -> nvidia). All seems to work great :)

Now I want to get Quake 3 Arena working. I have a linux version of the game, so I installed from the cd, and applied the 1.32 point release that I downloaded. All this with no errors, nothing odd. Then I set my color depth to 16bit and tryed to start quake 3, but it fails with the following output.

Has anyone else make this work???

What should I do to get a little more debug info?

Please help.

I'm not sure what signal 11 is, but I seem to remember something about sound... are you running any sound servers?

It also won't hurt to check your Direct Rendering:

Open up a console -> type: glxinfo |more

Look for a line that says "Direct Rendering: " Make sure it says "Yes"

I am not running any sound servers that I know about, just the default KDE setup. I also tried started X using failsafe as the window manager and had the same results.

My sound card is a SB Live using ALSA Drivers.

I will check the Direct Rendering.

Thanks

Maybe you should try following DOlson's tutorial for setting up the nvidia drivers

I should be reprimanded :(

I missed the part about Load "glx" not working.

When I used

Load "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/extensions/libglx.so"

it was fixed.

Thanks johnnyv and DOlson

Yes, yes - Enjoy! Hope to blow you to pieces soon!

DOlson - I'm coming with those tutorials, it's just so hard to finish them when your editor dumps you, you try to live a real life despite school and work, you have a car accident, and you don't touch your computer much anymore because it's what you do all day! I'll get them done soon, promise. The next month has me less busy anyway. Hopefully in time for your site's overhaul.
