cogswela
Hey everyone, I am a student and am new to Linux. I am in a group of 3 other people and we are trying to setup a server and client. We are running Mandrake 10 on two machines. One has a server installed the other a client. We have the two computers connected into a Bay Networks hub that is connected to the internet. Both computers are able to access the internet, but we need functionality as a client/server. What software is out there to connect the two and make them interact as a client/server? For example Novell but for Linux and Open source. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Adam
sitor
Adam, First of all it depends on what you want to do. Mandrake has a whole load of servers included: webserver (Apache), FTP server (ProFTP), File Sharing (Samba server), etc. If you can tell what you want to do with the server, we can tell which server to install / run and how to do that. Ciao, Sitor
cogswela
sorry it took so long for me to respond. We want to run the file sharing (samba) server. (client/server) thanks.
fissy
i swear by this article for configuring the samba server: http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/libr...y/l-samba3.html Once that is setup and samba started, you should be able to access the shares through a windows client computer or konqueror in mandrake. You can also mount the shares as drives.
