Nvidia drivers and MDK 10CE

Hi all you Mandrake geniuses!

Main issue:

I've installed MDK 10ce on my Shuttle and today I installed the Nvidia drivers. The installation went very well and I edited the XF86Config-4 file to "nvidia", but when I then tried to start X, I got this message:

using authority file /home/user/.Xauthority

writing authority file /home/user/.Xauthority

using authority file /home/user/.Xauthority

writing authority file /home/user/.Xauthority

Authentication failed - cannot start X server

Perhaps you do not have console ownership?

When I log in as root it works fine, and the driver works.

I also tried to create a new user, but the same message comes when I use startx.

Anyone know what to do?

Issue 2:

None of the mirrors work for update, I've added one mirror that I got a tip on, but I feel that it doesn't have all the updates I need, because it just contained 70MB of updates... anyone got any good mirrors I should use?

Issue 3:

Anyone want to list good sites I can add as URPMI-sources?

Thanks for all help!

NOt sure about your particular problem. However, I was able to get ahold of the Mandrake 10.0 CE Powerpack 5 CDs, and I decided to swap my ATI Xpert 2000 Pro with my GeForce4 MX440SE and install the CE Powerpack.

Anyways, the powerpack install installed everything needed: nvidia kernels and nvidia glx. Even the config file shows nvidia, instead of nv. Talk about making it easy!

Issue #1: Have you tried deleting the .Xauthority file if it exists (or better, rename it to something else with mv .Xauthority .Xauthority_old)? Seems like the program cannot write or read from that file.

Issue #2: I'm using this mirror with ../base/hdlist.cz as the list. I reinstalled 4 days ago, and downloaded the 700 MB or so of updates from there.

Issue #3: Try this contrib mirror and this PLF.

1. I haven't a clue. Obviously sounds like a permission problem. Could run msec to try and fix it. Just an idea. http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=4564

2. You have to get Official b4 you can get 'updates'. No such thing as updates for CE and never was.....that was cooker. Of course, you could also do that but cooker mirrors are still majorly screwy, some updated/most not.
