I have a Netgear WG511T PCMCIA wireless adapter. I installed the madwifi RPM package that's available for Fedora Core 1 (my Linux distro). So I ran the package...It installed I guess and went back to the desktop. Now what? It still doesn't work.

Please remember I know NOTHING about Linux at this point.

Try these commands on a terminal and see what happens:

modprobe wlan

modprobe ath_hal

modprobe ath_pci

Those are the wireless modules that the RPM should have installed.

If that doesn't work, look for files with a "ko" extension:

#locate madwifi | grep ko

use "insmod" to install the modules listed and restart your network with:

#service network restart

Be sure to do all of this as root, of course.
