The on-board LAN built into my new EliteGroup L7VMM2 Motherboard would not work when I fired up Mandrake Linux 9.1.

When I installed MDK 9.1 it automatically found the driver Via-Rhine (VT6102 Rhine 10/100 - described in the hardware section of MCC) from the installation CDs.

I couldn't ping anything although eth0 was brought up OK at boot time.

Eventually I found the solution:

Set in BIOS >> Advanced BIOS Features >> APIC mode >> disable.

Once the APIC mode was disabled (default is enabled) everything worked!

ps Don't confuse APIC (Advanced programming Interrupt Controller) with ACPI (Advanced Configuration for Power Management Interface)

:D
