sh123469 Posted March 21, 2004 Report Share Posted March 21, 2004 I have had sound - configured with sndconfig from the command line and many applications would play sound but no sound from KDE and aRts could not initialize sound i/o errors. Finally figured this out. I set aRts to use OSS and specified a custom device (/dev/dsp). Now I have sound from applications and from KDE all of the windows and startup sounds work. :D Hardware Compaq laptop with ESS 1868. Sndconfig set the sb module to work. When I had sound from some apps, I just had to keep trying until I found the right combination to get KDE to play sounds too.
