the mystery of the disappearing hp2200c usb scanjet

everytime the pc is booted scanimage -L correctly reports the hp2200c usb flatbed scanner. similarly, immediately after a reboot, xscanimage will have in its title plustek:/dev/usb/scanner0.

all correct so far i believe as the plustek is also the driver for this particular hp.

 

now the mystery begins, on a second scanimage -L as it says no scanner found

or

when the scan button on xscanimage is hit .. it will say device i/o error

similarly, the preview/acquire image says the same thing.

 

all detectives pls. respond ;)

ps. aside from the humour i have been on this thing for 2/3 weeks now and just finally got scanimage -L to respond so i really want to take another step forward.

I get that sometimes, scan a page it works, 20 min later , scanner not found.

What works for me is to unplug the USB cable and plug in again , scanner found !!

is it as extreme as mine?

i mean .. if i skip the scanimage -L step i get to see plustek:/dev/usb/scanner0 up in the title bar of xscanimage.

but it refuses to scan .. i havent been able to scan yet i m in the set up process still :(

I don't have the same scanner as you, i set my epson up in mdk control centre. Think my problem is more to do with usb than anything. A shot in the dark here, i use the Kooka scan and OCR app in KDE for scanning. It might be worth a try.
