Kylotan
I have an Aureal-based sound card, which I managed to get working in 9.0 with drivers I got from Sourceforge. However in 9.2 it gives an error saying that it's trying to link code compiled with gcc 2 with code compiled by gcc 3. I read that recent ALSA builds have support for Aureal cards built in. So I'd be interested in trying this on my system. However, I have no idea how to go about this. It looks like I already have ALSA 0.9.6 installed: ] rpm -qa | grep alsa libalsa2-0.9.6-3mdk libalsa2-devel-0.9.6-3mdk libalsa-data-0.9.6-3mdk ... but I have no idea how to do anything with that. Additionally, I think I need version 0.9.7 but don't know where to find an RPM for it. My usual resource, RPMFind.net, was no help. I don't seem to have any entries on my KDE menu for Alsa or any sound configuration tools except for KDE asking about aRts. Any information would be appreciated as I have little to no clue about what to do here.
beesea
i told about how i got my aureal card working here: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?sho...opic=8654&st=45 i never went the alsa route in mandrake, but you could try compiling it yourself: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/index...r-Aureal#matrix following the directions here should get you set up (worked for me in gentoo)
Kylotan
If you remove the "alias sound au8820" line, won't that break anything that uses OSS for sound? Sorry if that's a dumb question, as I'm pretty new to sound on Linux.
