hippocampe
I use mandrake 9 and gnome 2. I have previously upgraded from mdk 8.0 and 8.2. I backed up my files and did a complete reinstall for version 9. Now Gnome freezes on me regularly (only the mouse moves on screen but all menus and apps stop responding). All I can do is reboot. At least it responds to the Alt-SysRq commands. Also, the num lock key would stop responding and I cant use the numeric pad. I cant say exactly what makes it crash but I noticed that it happens often when I use openoffice or gnome internet apps. Openoffice also just quits without reason sometimes. This is getting on my nerve as I intend to use Linux now instead of that other OS but it is worse if I have to reboot like that everytime. Any ideas guys? Thanks in advance
bvc
Is xinetd, fam, and portmap running? Check in mcc>System>Services or from the command line service -s I know that nautilus and gedit need these but when disabled I did have any other probs. Have you looked in the /var/logs and ~/.xsession-errors?
hippocampe
I have taken a look at the xsession-errors log but it says nothing interesting. From the descriptions of fam, xinetd and portmap I saw in mcc, I thought I don't need them so I disable them. You think that may be the problem?
