Andrewski
I had responded to a post on the XFCE forum http://xfce.lindesign.se/db/viewtopic.php?t=527 in which someone is having problems with the gtk themes. I realise that I have them too, and can't figure out how to rectify the situation. Can any of you? ;) Problem: GTK themes don't really change appearance, just icons on buttons and such. (That is, colours and sizes and shapes always stay grey and plain, even when they're supposed to change.) We're running Mandrake 9.2. I have no ~/.gtkrc-2.0/ folder. Here are some of the rpm's I have installed: andrew:andrew$ rpm -qa | grep xfce libxfce4mcs1-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-utils-4.0.3-1mdk libxfcegui4_1-devel-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-mcs-manager-4.0.3-1mdk libxfcegui4_1-4.0.3-1mdk libxfce4util1-4.0.3-1mdk xfce4-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-toys-4.0.3-1mdk libxfce4mcs1-devel-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-mcs-plugins-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-iconbox-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-mcs-manager-devel-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-panel-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-systray-4.0.3-1mdk xfce4-artwork-0.0.4-1mdk libxfce4util1-devel-4.0.3-1mdk xfce-panel-devel-4.0.3-1mdk andrew:andrew$ rpm -qa | grep gtk libgtk+1.2-1.2.10-37mdk libexif-gtk4-0.3.3-6mdk gtk-engines2-2.2.0-4mdk gtk+2.0-2.2.4-2mdk gtkhtml-1.1.10-4mdk libgtk+2.0_0-2.2.4-2mdk gtk+mdk-0.1.6-14mdk pygtk2.0-wrapper-2.0.0-2mdk pygtk2.0-libglade-2.0.0-2mdk gtkhtml3.0-3.0.8-1mdk gtkdialogs-2.0-6mdk libgtkxmhtml1-1.4.2-7mdk pygtk2.0-2.0.0-2mdk libgtkhtml1.1_3-1.1.10-4mdk libgtkhtml-3.0_2-3.0.8-1mdk libgtk+2.0_0-devel-2.2.4-2mdk pygtk-0.6.11-4mdk libgtk+-x11-2.0_0-2.2.4-2mdk gtksourceview-0.6.0-4mdk gtk-engines-0.12-8mdk libgtk+1.2-devel-1.2.10-37mdk gtk-themes-1.0-10mdk pygtk2.0-devel-2.0.0-2mdk Someone on the XFCE mailing list suggested (as a last resort) that perhaps my gtk (engine) is badly installed. I don't think so, because I've just installed the Mandrake standards, but could that be at fault?
bvc
yes, the behavior u r describing is just like trying to use a theme without the theme engine installed. I d/k what engine xfce uses (ding....probably the xfce engine) but I think it's included in the gtk-engines2. Look in /etc/gtk bla bla bla/engines.... Andrewski
One more thing: I created a new user in userdrake and when I tried running gnome and xfce, the themes worked, so I think it's just a config issue. Any idea where to look?
bvc
all the ~/.gnome's and family.....mv them
beesea
We're running Mandrake 9.2. I have no ~/.gtkrc-2.0/ folder ~/.gtkrc-2.0 is supposed to be a file, not a directory. here's what mine looks like: gtk-theme-name = "Industrial" gtk-font-name = "tahoma 9" i don't actually know if this will help solve your problem though... Andrewski
Thanks for the replies. beesea, I did realise soon after looking into this that .gtkrc-2.0 was a file; whoops. :) Actually, I ended up doing what bvc suggested and moved select .gnome and such folders from my home directory. It was apparently just a simple user config problem... [sigh]
