System: Vaio, AMD laptop with VIA soundcard, Alsa (snd-via82xx) Problem: When artsd is running nothing else can access the soundcard. soundwrapper is too slow for somethings (e.g. vice) and I want xmms to use alsa plugin. Solution: Make artsd suspend after 1 sec. But you can only do this if you disable full duplex operation! see attached snapshots and http://www.kde.org/areas/multimedia/arts-faq.php for further info. So if you accept a delay of 1 sec in the beginning, arts gets out of way. But this is just a workaround as only one program can access soundcard at a time.
