Garrete
If this is not the right place for this question, please forgive me. I installed the downloadable version of Mandrake, 9.2 with kde 3.1 I believe. It is up and running. I do not know a thing about Linux. I have a program called VASSAL. It uses Java. How do I install it? I clicked on the CDROM icon and navigated to the Linux install file, but when I clicked on the file it did not install. So I went to www.vassalengine.org and downloaded it from there. Man, I can not find it now. Last night before I ran the updater, I found a software install program, in Mandrake's KDE. After the updater, I can not find it. Another problem I have is sound. I do not have any. Someone said to check the sound, but it has changed since my update. Also, I have a TRON Lightcycle game. I have an ATI 9500 Pro, but I only got 2FPS on the game. Also, when I click on a program in KDE, it takes 10+ sec to load. Is that normal or is it because I do not have a real copy. If I could get just a little help with these problems, I would be very greatful. Thank you in advance.
Pzatch
Try turning up the sound in either Aumix or Kmix. As for installing the app. What does the webside providing it say? What programs are you starting that take time? Some are faster at starting than others. Though the app running speed is different. KDE is the slowest overall besk top. Its not because you have a different version. there are no hacked or crippled versions of linux. As for the vidio thing you might have to download the vidio driver from the cards manufacturers/chipsets site.
Ixthusdan
Before you install anything else, update your tools (anything that has drake in the name) including urpmi. You may encounter errors if you don't do this.
phunni
Do you have Java installed? That will probably be a seperate install...
