how can i see with how many dpi my mandrake 9.2 is running and how could i change it? when i use mozilla 1.5 and leave the fonts on system settings, some sites look corrupted, meaning a little to large or broad. when i change the dpi setting to 96 everything looks fine. so i guess my system setting is 75 dpi.

is it useful to change the rest of linux to 96 or above dpi?

In the log file for the xserver you find dpi info:

/var/log/xfree.0.log or something; just check that dir and you will find which file I mean.

It's quite a long file, just search it for 'dpi'.

I used a trick on my xfconfig file to tell the system a different size screen than I really have, which means that I don't get a different size font even if I only turn on the screen after the x-server has started, and it is exactly 100dpi... check my config.
