LarsB
Start of first psot from Lars Hello, any advice concerning this. I have a download 9.2 on a Toshiba Tecra laptop. Used 9.0 before (without any greater problems). The install did not accept CD2, so right now it's a CD1 installation. The HD does something all the time (for no apparent purpose) Does this dump tell anybody anything. In general about the installation: The 9.0 did not recognize the Belkin PCMCIA card (had to do some editing) the 9.2 had no problems. Both 9.0 and 9.2 suggest 24 bit for the screen, should be 16 bit. On 9.0 I was never able to get my poor Canon BJC-1000 to work. (I gave up). On 9.2 it works OK. (In my experience it is always best to have all hardware connected during install, rather than trying to do it later) The sound piece is not detected but it is possible to do it later with sndconf (with a trial and error method). Gowator
Lars WELCOME The reason the HDD is spinning is it seems to be constantly wring to /var/log but I guess you know that or you wouldn't have posted it :D To solve the immediate problem Id try stopping shorewall which is ~i think shorewall stop (In my experience it is always best to have all hardware connected during install, rather than trying to do it later) Usually YES, however make an exception for USB mem devices. Sometimes the fat12 partition messes up the partition program and then you end up wiping all your partition tables. If you already have the partitions setup then it shouldn't be aproblem but Id recommend not doing it all the same :D
LarsB
To solve the immediate problem Id try stopping shorewall which is ~i thinkshorewall stop Thanks Gowator for your response. It is not the firewall, that problem was there before I activated it. So the question remains, if it is writing to the log all the time, then why is it doing that. I did not have this "feature" on Mandrake 9,0. What about EXT3 I think I used ReiserFS on 9.0. Reards Lars
Gowator
The ethernetcard seems to be the root of the problems... try shutting it down and see if the harddrive activity continues.... first deactive the interface ifdown eth0 then rmmod <nameof modeule> Sorry if this is a bit vague, it sounds like you have an irritating fault and it would be nice to help more but if this were my system this is what I'd do :D
