Urza9814
I'm trying to update GAIM from 68 to 75...but it says: file /usr/lib/libgaim-remote.so.0.0.0 from install of gaim-0.75-0mdk9.2 conflicts with file from package libgaim-remote0-0.68-1mdk now, I can't use the find file, because it says some thing is out of date (not sure what exactly...don't know the command for that, and it's not on my menu anymore...) but if anyone has any guesses as to that problem (and how to run it) but I'm thinking if I delete the 'libgaim-remote0-0.68-1mdk' file, then it'll work...but I can't find that...anyone know anything about that problem or my file search thing that'll be of some help? ezroller
use this advice at your own risk!!! If it were my system, I would do the following: download the latest rpm available for mandrake and install it like this in a terminal: rpm -Uvh --force insertrpmnamehere again... forcing rpms is risky business. i'm a chance taker though. That error message is just telling you permissions are conflicting, files are sitting where mandrake is trying to write to. I have never had a problem forcing rpm's, but I am careful when I do so. Use this advice at you're own risk. It really is what I would do though.
ezroller
update: if you need to find files, use the locate command in the terminal. as root: updatedb as normal user: locate insertfilenamehere
Urza9814
ahhh...you can force RPMs... :-P that's what I'd do too :-P...my plan was to just delete the conflicting file :-P I'd already deleted /usr/lib/libgaim-remote.so.0.0.0 before realizeing that it was the package causing problems, not the file :-P
