  1. server is Mandrake 10.1, the client in this case is XP. It just worked two days ago...
  2. Can anyone help me create a script for me? It's pretty simple i think. All it needs to do it to do an ifconfig of my ppp0 > textfile, then email that file to my hotmail account, every day, this way i will be able to know the server's ip when i want to access it from over the internet, and won't get stuck when my isp decides to change my ip. I would really appreciate any ideas. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  3. Does anyone know why i can't get internet sharing to work with 10.1 ? A few days ago i had it working, then one day i turned the client on and it didn't work, so i played around with some stuff on the server side, checked the checkbox in Firewall so that there is no firewall for the time being, and still nothing, I can ftp from the client to the server over lan, the client gets an ip from the server, but no internet. Please help...
  4. does anyone know why i can't connect through ftp from a windows box to my mandrake 10.1 through the internet, I can connect through ftp from the linux box to the linux box, but not across the intenet. Also, what's an easy way to add users in Samba
  5. nevermind, it seems to be working right now.
  6. why is it that a dhcp client machine on the network gets a 10.1.0.40 address when in mandrake I have the DHCP service to give ip's starting at 10.1.0.3 and up to 10.1.0.254 ?
  7. i have an internet connection now. :D thank you all very very much. However, i'm sure i will be asking for your help very soon.
  8. Yeah, when i go through the new connection setup, it asks me what device i want to use and it finds my onboard nic, so that's working, but why isn't the United States in the list of countries when you need to chose your ISP when you chose a new ADSL connection? Also, i thought that dsl was ISDN.
  9. When i choose ADSL, it makes me chose my internet provider from a list of countries, however the United States is not in that list. THen what??
  10. Yeah, i've tried that, but when i choose IDSN or whatever that is (in mcc and then under network, then add connection) I go through the setup and it asks me if i'm using an internel or external, i chose external, then it asks me what com port the modem is on... I attempted the same physical setup on a windows box as well, and that didn't work either, so i called tech support and they just said that i need to use the install cd that i got with the internet/modem. So if the problem is the same with windows and linux, what does that mean? I can't use the cd because that only works with windows. I'm sorry if i'm rambling, but i just want this to start working .
  11. does anyone know what i need to do to get my att dsl to work with mandrake 10.1? I won't run through a router, but this (my server needs to connect directley to the internet for the rest of my lan to work). ATT is no help because they do not supposedley support linux. If i can't figure this out, i'll have to resort to 2003 advanced server and i really don't want to. Moved from Software to Networking - Artificial Intelligence
  12. just installed 10.1 and chose vesa as the video and it's up and running, thanks much
  13. So if i go into mcc (from the commandline) and go into display settings or whatever that is and choose VESA is the video adapter selection, it should install the drivers for that and work? I'm using 9.2 just because it was what I had laying around, perhaps i will download 10. Would that even fix the problem though?
  14. I just installed Mandrake 9.2 on a Via EPIA 5000 (VT8601A North Bridge and VIA Apollo PLE133 video chipset). However, i boot up, the command line works okay, but when i go into the gui or do a video test, i get a black screen. I downloaded the video drivers off of viaarena.com, put the driver in the right folder, and still nothing. Anyone have any ideas?
