If you have your /home directory on a different partition from your root partition ( / ) then yes you do not have to get rid of it.

Ok, I just recently installed an internal sound card, I used to have an external one which played Cds on windows, but was not supported on linux. And no there are not any cables from both of my cdroms to the sound card.

but that doesn't work

Did u put any media into the hdc?
Yes
If yes, what type of cd ?An audio cd
Audio cd has no file system and cannot be mounted. How am i supposed to use them then?

after taking off supermount it looks like this
/dev/hda6 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
/dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,nosuid,ro,umask=0,user,nodev 0 0
/dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom2 auto codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,nosuid,ro,umask=0,user,nodev 0 0
/dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,sync,unhide,noauto,nosuid,umask=0,user,nodev 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0

now when i try to mount it says
/dev/hdc: Input/output error
mount: I could not determine the filesystem type, and none was specified

here it is
/dev/hda6 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/hdc,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=auto,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=auto,--,iocharset=iso8859-1,sync,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
/dev/hda1 /mnt/windows vfat iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,umask=0 0 0
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0

How did you try to access the audio CDs?
I tried 3 different ways, when i went in Konqueror to /mnt/cdrom it says i dont have the access rights, when i try to play it throuh KsCD the timer works and it recognises the tracks on the CD but no sound comes out. When i try to mount it in the Konsole it says "mount: according to mtab, none is already mounted on /mnt/cdrom mount failed.
-
found another problem, I still cant use audio cds.
-
woohoo, thank you very much everybody, now i have got it working perfectly.
-
My computer recognises that the memory is there and it uses it so why do i have to push it in more?
-
Using telnet within a lan is ok if you have a decent firewall

some of us are going to have to do some serious hardware upgrades for Doom 3.
Yeah, especially me, I dont even want to think of the fps on Doom 3 on a 650Mhz P3
-
FSB speed and memory speed are two different quantities. For example, in my case I have an FSB speed of 100MHz (actually 200MHz due too DDR) but memory runs at 133MHz
DDR does not increase FSB speed it increases memory speed so your memory should be working at 266Mhz but the FSB is downclocking it to 100Mhz
-
My FSB speed is 100Mhz so there should be no problem with that.
Linux on my really old computer

Nope this computer isn't networked. Is there any way i can just install a kernel off a floppy disk?
