I did, this is the grabber package. I'm in Canada, there is no Canadian package, so the only option is the .na package. This generates the above errors every time.

    Freeguide

I am trying to get Freeguide version 0.11 to work on Mandriva running The program launches. I have checked the Java version, I have java version "1.6.0_18" installed. I ran the First time wizard. At the end it tries to download the TV listings. It fails with a PATH error. The exact testx is : They are, I installed them though urpmi. The current value for $PATH - echo $PATH /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/usr/lib/qt4/bin:/home/cliff/bin:/sbin I did some searching around, I am uncertain how to modify the value of $PATH. I did add a symlink to /usr/shave/xmltv but that did not fix it. It has been a long time since I had a PATH problem. Can someone guide me to a howto that works? The ones I found confused me more than helped.
  3. The strange thing for this problem is, Okular can view the documents, but can not send them to the printer. Adobe can do both. As a work around, I installed Adobe so I can print pdf documents.
  4. Well, I had the need to print some PDF files created by the bank. They would not print with Okular. I simply don't know why. The symptoms, the file got sent to cups. Nothing happened on the printer. I looked in cups, and according to cups the job completed. I installed Acrobat Reader. I downloaded this -->AdbeRdr9.3.2-1_i486linux_enu.rpm from Freshmeat, and installed it using urpmi. I can now open the PDF's from the bank, and print them. There has to be a problem somewhere, but I don't know where. For now I'll leave Acroread installed and use it.
  5. I think I have solved this problem. For anyone interested, the problem appears to have been the default printer settings in cups. The paper size for the HL2040, the system default printer was set to A4. I changed that to letter. Now when I open a file in Okular, and try to print, it is set to letter as the paper size. I now no longer have to change that value. The surprise for me is the file I could not print before now prints without problems. I have to assume other printing applications like Open Office were setting the correct paper size and over riding the A4 size. I never had a problem with OO with the paper size in Cups set wrong. Hope this experience helps someone else...
  6. I'm running Mandriva 2010 Free 64 bit version. I'm having problems trying to print from Okular. The first problem, any time I try to print a PDF file, the print dialogue always comes up setting the printer to A4 paper size. I can change it to letter, and some times the files will print O.K. There doesn't seem to be a way to configure Okular to set the paper size to letter ( 8.5 x 11 ). This is more of a pain than anything else. Is there a way to set the paper size, so I don't have to change it every time I use the Okular? Second problem. I said sometimes it will print. I created a PDF file with my HP flatbed scanner. I run the scanner under V-box, since there is no linux driver for the HP G4010. I then copied the file to my home partition, and tried to print. As soon as I ( changed paper size first) tried to print, the red paper light on my Brother HL2040 turns on. Paper never moves, the red light is on. I have seen the same problem with files I did not create. I tried several times, and verified there was no paper jam. Because I had to get that file printed, I went back into v-box, and attached the printer to v-box. I opened an old version of Acrobat reader under XP, clicked print, and the file printed on the Brother. From this I conclude my printer is OK, it prints everything else. I strongly suspect the PDF file is O.K. since I can view it in Okular, and on windbloze, and print from XP. I would prefer not to install Acrobat reader for linux, since there doesn't seem to be a Mandriva file in the repos and I don't like installing software ( its a 60 meg file ) not build for my system. I looked at Okular, it has a setting for backends. It lists Ghostscript. I'm guessing now, that Ghostscript does the printing. Can any one confirm this? If that is the case, is there a way to change the default paper size in Ghostscript? Is the printing issue got something to do with Ghostscript? Is there a better linux program to install to handle PDF files? Your thoughts.
  7. Thank-you for the replies. I guess I'll give Picasa another try. I had it installed on an older version of Mandriva.
  8. I have been looking for a program to do some basic, quick and dirty photo edits. I know you can get the Gimp to do just about anything, if you have the time to learn it. My problem is I don't have the time, hence the search. Any way, after some Googling, one suggestion is Fotoxx. I install on Mandirva 2010 64 bit system. The problem is the Fotoxx crashes, with a segfault when you try to load a jpeg file once the program is loaded. I have discovered the program can load an image if you load it at startup time from the command line. Example 'fotoxx image.jpg' loads the file image.jpg, and you can edit it. The segfault is annoying, it means you can not load images after launching the program. I have removed and re-installed, the problem remains. Has anyone else tried this program? BTW there are two versions on the repos, both segfault loading images. Any thoughts on how to trouble shoot this? [moved from Software by spinynorman]

  10. Ian, Thank-you for the response. I edited the KDE4 menu, and changed the entry to call 'konqueror' and now Konq files into action without problems. The original command was 'kfmclient loadprofile Mandriva Web Browsing'. That does not work on the command line or from the menu. That got me looking into the profiles, there are several that come with Konq. I can not find them on my system. Any idea where they should be? Have I got some package missing? Once I have Konq running, if I try to load a different profile, some load, others crash Konq. Not a big deal, but an irritation.
  11. I recently discovered Konqueror would not launch and run from an icon. I can launch it command line, and after running it a little I start getting errors about Qpainter not being active. Here is a sample of the errors. QPainter::translate: Painter not active QPainter::setClipRect: Painter not active QPainter::begin: Widget painting can only begin as a result of a paintEvent QPainter::translate: Painter not active QPainter::setClipRect: Painter not active I have no idea where to start to fix this. My system is up to date. I'm running uname -a Linux duelie 2.6.31.12-desktop-1mnb #1 SMP Tue Jan 26 02:59:07 EST 2010 x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ GNU/Linux I use Firefox mostly, so I not sure when this started. I was experiencing a problem accessing my online banking, so I tried Konq, only to find this problem. BTW, the banking problem is not related, as far as I know. Desktop is KDE-4. Can anyone give me some guidance?

  13. Hmmm, I was afraid that might be the case. I don't have Pulse Audio running, because for reasons I can not explain, it kills the three laptops in the house that connect through the wireless connection. That might sound bizarre, to me too at first. With PA running, I have a XP system, a Vista system, and a PCLinuxOS system, constantly drop out, and loose their wireless connection with PA running on my system. That was failing on 2009.1 Live and now on 2010 Free 64bit. I have not tried to figure out why, I just deactivated PA in MCC, and the wireless systems work without issue. My box is hard wired. I have XFCE and KDE both installed, not Gnome. Is there any other sound server solution I can try besides PA?
  14. Thunderbird is version 2.0.0.23 on Mandriva 2010 - free 64 bit version. New install, this is not an upgrade. I have gone to Edit --> Preferences --> General tab, and checked Play a sound. I selected a sound file that played in older versions of TB. For the record, I am not using Pulse Audio, it is deactivated. The file plays if I use 'play mail2new.wav' at the command line. I know TB is fussy about file encoding. Does anyone know what encoding I have to have to make the file work? I did find some references to converting the file with 'sox' but I can not get sox to work. I just dumps out help. I also had a look into Audacity, it will save files in different formats, but which one will work?
  15. I have upgraded the system to 2010. Most things are working without problems. Drakbackup was not installed during the upgrade. I had to use urpmi to install it. I went through the configuration, and for reasons I can not explain, drakbackup configuration wizard still thinks my DVD drive is /dev/sg0. That is my harddrive. My DVD drive is /dev/sr0. I edited the configuration file and corrected the error. I will test it to see if it can backup my system. Side note, Pulse Audio does not work on my Nvidia sound hardware. If I enable it, I get very scratchy sound for a few seconds, and sound stops. Disable Pulse, and sound works again.
  16. I gave up trying to get the backup function in MCC to work. I spent some time an learned what I needed to know about tar. I tared the directories I needed to preserve, and used K3B to write the files out to DVD's. BTSOM why the backup utility does not work on my system. Next, I'm going to upgrade to 2010.
  17. I edited the /etc/drakxtools/drakbackup/drakbackup.conf file, and changed the following : I still can not backup to a DVD. This is the error reported... To verify the drive is good, and the media I have works, I downloaded mandriva-linux-free-2010.0-x86_64.iso , ran a md5sum on the file, and burned it to a DVD+r. I can boot the DVD without problems. So, I'm as sure as I can be this is not a DVD hardware, or media problem.
  18. I am trying to create a backup of my system, Spring 2009.1. I ran the Backup utility from MCC. It ran for about two hours, and created the files on my HD to backup. I tried to configure the utility to backup to my DVD drive. The backup failed, with a message saying 'no media found' ( words to that effect). On closer inspection, on Advanced configuration, there is a drop down box to select the correct device. Mine only lists /dev/sg0. This is my HD not my DVD drive. The DVD drive is sr0. I ran these commands to show.... wodim dev=/dev/sg0 -atip Device type : Disk Version : 5 Response Format: 2 Capabilities : Vendor_info : 'ATA ' Identification : 'WDC WD1600AAJS-0' Revision : '05.0' Device seems to be: Generic CCS Disk. wodim: Sorry, no supported CD/DVD-Recorder found on this target. [cliff@Duelie:~]$ wodim dev=/dev/sr0 -atip Device type : Removable CD-ROM Version : 5 Response Format: 2 Capabilities : Vendor_info : 'HL-DT-ST' Identification : 'DVD-RAM GSA-H55N' Revision : '1.03' Device seems to be: Generic mmc2 DVD-R/DVD-RW. Using generic SCSI-3/mmc DVD-R(W) driver (mmc_mdvd). Driver flags : SWABAUDIO BURNFREE Supported modes: PACKET SAO If I click the drop down box, I can not select sr0, only /dev/sg0 appears, so the write to DVD never starts. Is there some other configuration I can do to allow writing to my DVD drive?
  19. Go here -->http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2010.0_Notes Section 5 gives you instructions on various methods of upgrades. Last upgrade I did, I used the command line method. Worked very well, and I wound up with a file listing all the packages that were updated. This is the way I'll update my 2009.1 installation.
  20. No, I did not have that one installed, it is now, along with a pre-req.... I ran /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup and voila, the module compiles and loads. Thank-you! :) Part of the problem for me is to know what packages for the kernel have to installed to compile a module. I don't do much of this, and since the introduction of DKMS I now know I need to know more. The naming of the kernel packages I find confusing at best. I do regular updates, so I wind up with several kernels installed, and many packages that support the various kernels. During this problem I did some house cleaning, and removed some older kernels I was not using. However there are still a two installed with the supporting packages ie Nvidia kernel module etc. I'm not sure there is an answer for this, but it would help if there was a doc that said, something like : Basic operation : latest kernel xxxx For Nvidia : add what ever package... For compiling add these packages... Just a thought. The problem is solved.
  21. The attachment. I also tried as root vbox-build-module, the result... What am I missing here?
  22. How do I do that? Its a .jpeg with all the kernel packages installed...
  23. I have the following rpm installed. VirtualBox-3.0.10_54097_mdv2009.1-1.i586.rpm I installed it using urpmi on the command line. It installs fine, and I can run a XP-home-sp3 installation without problems. After I shutdown, and boot the system up, Vbox will not start the guest system. It reports a 'NS_ERROR_Failure 0x80004005' and RC= -1908. The prompts tell me to run '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'. When I do, it fails to build and insert the vboxdrv module. It reports a 'vboxdrv: No Sybbol version for Struct_module'. Some system information, I'm running 2009.1. Uname -a reports : Linux Duelie 2.6.29.6-desktop-2mnb #1 SMP Sun Aug 16 23:23:47 EDT 2009 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ GNU/Linux I have verified DKMS is installed. I run a 3d desktop, and that will not compiled without DKMS. I think something is not installed for the current kernel. Bit what? If I uninstall the VirtualBox rpm and re-install it, all works again until I shutdown and re-boot. I don't leave my system running at night. I have been to www.virtualbox.org and looked for solutions, but have not found a fix for this. Your thought would be appreciated. The kernel packages I have installed... 24. Than-you to all that answered my post. I did a MCC is back and working. Thank-you! I have since discovered much more than MCC got blown away. KDE is gonzo, Thunderbird and FIrefox also. I used to trust urpmi blindly, I will now have a close look for what will be removed. It appears I can fully recover, by re-installing the apps I want. So lets call this thread solved. Once again, Thank-you to those who have helped.
  25. Well, I installed pmccabe, as you suggested. That is not MCC. Did a google, here is what pcmccabbe is... MCC does not work anymore. What I need to find out is what packages do I need to install to get MCC functioning again. I do not want to re-install Pulse Audio. I will if there is no other way, but I don't want to wast the disk space for a sound server that doesn't work. I have never found a way to have Pulse Audio work with sound apps and system sounds. aRts does it, so I installed aRts...
