  1. hi!

i need an idea on how to implement this in linux

i have a squid proxy server. how will i limit the internet access time of the client machines on the lan, let's say i will just alot 20 hrs per week per machine and it needs an account to be able to connect to the internet.

just need to control internet connection for some offices :P

    tnx

  2. hi!

i changed my internet provider so the network settings also changed (IP config). aside from that no other settings are changed. the problem is i can no longer connect to some sites and urpmi can't connect also. what could be the problem?

btw, im using MLE2005. when i boot to winxp, there is no problem in accessing all the sites..

    tnx

  3. is the port forwarding different from ip forwarding?

already tried with the firewall stopped..

yes, that's it. i have two NIC, one for the live ip and one for the local ip. btw, i was able to connect the two networks using win2000.

    add:

i've already assigned the ip addresses to different NIC.. same result

  4. ok. from client machines of each lan, i can traceroute the both gateways but cant traceroute clients from other lan. same as pinging. but from the gateway, i cant traceroute any of the clients. btw, client machines are running windows..

Could the router be stopping the packets?

    how to check this?

  5. any idea for this one..

i have two class c lan networks:

    192.168.0.1/24 and 192.168.1.1/24

i have MLE 2005 running on one machine that serves as the gateway for both network. i set two virtual interfaces 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 on one NIC.

how can i get the two networks connect with each other? both network can ping the gateway but cannot ping the other network...

    tnx

  6. ok. here's what i did to enable internet connection sharing.. its very simple using MCC

    on pc1 (proxy server)

    1. go to Network & Internet (you do not need drakwizard, actually)

    2. click on Share the internet connection with other local machines. just follow the instructions. this will configure squid, you do not need to edit anything on the config files. just click on the 'reconfigure' option during the process if you have already installed and configured squid manually

    on pc2 (client)

    1. just set your browser's proxy settings to whatever ip address (local) your proxy server has (e.g. 192.168.0.1, port 80 or 3128)

that's it for ICS. web filtering with dansguardian or squidguard is a next step.

    hope this helps

  7. i cant find anything about DELAY POOL in the drakwizard..

by the way, my concern right now is bandwidth management in squid and the DELAY POOL feature will be the key. It is said that squid must be compiled during installation with the --enable-delay-pools option. Now, i want to know if squid is already compiled with that option when i installed it using the MCC. is there a way to check it?

  8. hi!

i installed squid proxy server using the package from the installation cds. is the squid delay pool feature already enabled in the installation? is there a way to check if its enabled? if not enabled then do i have to reinstall squid or just reconfigure it?

    tnx a lot

  9. tnx again.

Got the idea. i'll try it later.

ok, one more thing.. when updating packages, are the old packages deleted or replaced? or do i have to remove it manually? just want to clean up files :)

  10. alright, i already made it to work by installing the limewire latest beta rpm.

but have you guys checked that it is already available in urmpi? so probably its better if we let mcc handle the installation so that we can update/remove limewire later..

does anybody here already tried it using urmpi or mcc?

  11. i have the official jre installed in /usr/lib/jre1.5.0_04. i used the bin installer. firefox and azureus are using that.

is there a way to make limewire point to that directory?

well, limewire is the only p2p program i can find in the urpmi.

  12. java is already installed. i installed azureus and it needs java.

btw, when i installed limewire using the mcc, it required jpackage and some dependencies to be installed. i assume jpackage is the java utilities needed by limewire.

somebody already made it to work thru mcc? i want to install it thru mcc so that i can get limewire updates

    tnx btw

  13. I installed limewire with the package installer, the menu shortcut also.I use 2005 le.When I click the limewire button I can see the hourglass working(kde) then nothing happens.

I just tried limewire from a root command prompt and it said

[/usr/bin/limewire: error: failed to set JAVACMD

    /usr/share/java-utils/java-functions: line 135: -mx32m: command not found]

    any help, pls...
