  1. Rosegarden is a midi application. You need to install jack (urpmi qjackctl) and qsynth. Further you need a soundfont file (containing all the instruments (church organs and so on. Look in the rosegarden help for a place where you can download one).

First start qjackctl, then qsynt and then rosegarden.

    Have fun.

    Hi !

I took some time off, but I've now manage to URPMI the two packages you told me to get.

    When starting qjackctl I get this message; "Could not open ALSA sequencer as a client: midi patchbay will not be available." And when then opening the qsynth I first get this message; "qsynth1: failed to create the audiodriver (jack). Cannot continue without it." And a little window that displays;

    18:28:12.995 qsynth1: Creating synthesizer engine...

18:28:14.042 qsynth1: Creating audio driver (jack)...

18:28:14.046 qsynth1: Failed to create the audio driver (jack). Cannot continue without it.

fluidsynth: error: Jack server not running?

    18:30:11.054 qsynth1: Destroying synthesizer engine...

    18:30:11.056 qsynth1: Synthesizer engine terminated.

Hmmm.... any clue of what this means ? I've tried to configure them both, but I can't fix it....

  2. There is only one totem packages and only one xine package that you need to install: the version that is build for Mandrake XX (where xx whatever you are using). If that doesn't solve your problem have a look at your using setting (change audio and video output, skins, install extra codecs, delete config files for xine and totem etcetc)

Totem was installed from the 10.0 OE CDs - nothing extra there. I installed only the basic xine pkg. (w/urpmi) at first; it did its disappearing act, and I only installed the xine extras (like xine-arts, xine-flac) afterwards to try to get xine to stop disappearing.

Changed audio setting to ALSA, instead of auto-detect; played with video settings (resolution, color depth) but no change. I can't change skins because neither Totem nor xine lasts long enough to do anything. All codecs are installed. Not sure how to delete config files...?

This thread describes the identical problem with Xine, but no solution was posted.

How can I safely delete config files? Any other ideas if this doesn't fix?

    Hi there !

If your hardware are set up correctly I'm pretty sure there must be a configuration problem in your mediaplayer somewhere. I used almost an hour to set up the right config. for Mplayer the first time!!!!

-Did you xine -v or keffeine -v in console to see all actions ?

    -Try post them.

-And does this happen when playing other media like Mp3 ?

-And since you got 'permission denied' while initializing the sound driver, I think aRTee got a point when sayin that your sound problem might be related to file ownership attributes... same might hold true for your graphics/displaying problems..

This was my post for the Mplayer trouble:

  3. cenobite: it's normal(ish). mplayer is quite conservative with caching - it caches 20% of the file on startup. Other players don't cache so much so early. With an mp3 file this should be barely noticeable (it's just spooling about 1MB of data from hard disk to memory, after all) but with a big video file you'll notice it; the bigger the file, the slower your hard disk, the more you'll notice it. (If you try loading a 650MB movie over a wireless network link, you'll REALLY notice it :>)

    Hi !

Then everything is OK ! Mplayer runs great at the moment. It's the only player in my Linux box that got all the codecs working :headbang:

So thanx to chris z & adamw for the tips !

I think this post is now SOLVED !

    :thanks:

  4. Hi !

Thanx for the tips. I finally made it more stable with these settings:

    Audio driver = OSS

    Video driver = X11

Video codec= FFmpeg's libavcodec codec family

Audio codec= libmad mpeg audio decoder

All runs well now, but I think Mplayer a pretty slow loading the formats (MP3, WMV, etc.). Xine start the Mp3 file instantly, wile Mplayer uses aprox. 6-10 (sometimes even more) sec. to load a file ? Is this normal for Mplayer ?

Maybe my configuration still aren't optimal or maybe I just have to wait for the official MDK 10.1 :juggle:

    Thanx !

  5. Ok, now I've tried uprmi.removemedia -a, did a new setup of urpmi again.

uninstalled mplayer.rpm and mplayer-gui.rpm in remove software in kde. Then I urpmi those files you mentioned and everything is installed (except the skins, because urpmi couldn't find the package.....downloaded from rpmfind instead)

Still the Mplayer is buggy ! Take a look at the far end of my verbose (post above). What does "segmentation fault" means ? This appear the moment i try to push the eject button (or whatever button) when trying to load another mp3 or video (mplayer hangs or shut down)?!?! I have to start mplayer for each mp3 or video. Very annyoing :wall:

Do I need to uninstall some other packages too (or maybe upgrade some)? and if so which packages and how to remove everything in a simple way ?

    Best regards

    Noob with a Mplayer

PS! Kaffeine + xmms, etc works fine, but not with updated codecs like wmv

  6. HI !

I have just installed/updated my mplayer via urpmi , because I didn't have the wmv9 codec installed +++, but there is one thing I can't figure out; could someone please look at my verbose when running Mplayer in console ?

It plays well, but then trying to open another file or click anywhere on the mplayer (stop, open, preferences, etc.), or just clicking in the video window while playing, Mplayer just closing down or locks up, leaving no traces or error message in kde ?!?! I made the new install/update to make this lock up to go away, but it's still there.....

    Anyone ?

    Best regards

  7. HI !

I'm just trying out the progs included in the Mandrake 10.1 beta version, but can't start Rosegarden ?!? (R4 v0.9.9)

this is what I get when I rpm for alsa in console:

    libalsa-data-1.0.6-1mdk

    libalsa2-1.0.6-1mdk

I got the Intel 810 Ac 97 audio codec integrated soundcard on my Abit motherboard.

All I get is the Soundgarden startup window which displays:

    - initializing view....

    then nothing happens.

    Anyone got a clue ?

    Best regards

    Ole

  8. The solution is urpmi. Mandrake uses urpmi to install software. It takes care of dependencies. (read the FAQs about it). Amule is in PLF.

    Good luck.

Hi. I had to put this project away for some days... :-) , but today I finally made aMule to work

    :headbang:

I used the http://www.amule.org/wiki/index.php/HowTo_Compile_In_MDK , so I guess you were right devries !!

    :thanks:

This case is now SOLVED !!!

  9. Hi !

I'm about to install a bunch of libraries and stuff for aMule installation. When installing one of many libraries; gtk+ , I get this message when ./configure :

    checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config

    checking for glib-2.0 >= 2.4.0 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.4.0... Package glib-2.0 was not found in the pkg-config search path.

Perhaps you should add the directory containing `glib-2.0.pc'

    to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable

    No package 'glib-2.0' found

configure: error: Library requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.4.0 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.4.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them.

Mandrake finds the old version of glib ?!?, even I've installed a newer version with no errors..?!?

When I "rpm -qa |grep glib", I get this info:

    libglib1.2-1.2.10-11mdk

    libglib2.0_0-2.2.3-1mdk

    glibc-devel-2.3.3-10mdk

    glibc-2.3.3-10mdk (too old version)

I've configured and installed the glib-2.5.6 and everything went ok under installation, but mandrake doesn't find the new version ? I'm not sure how to adjust the pkg_config environment variable..... ?

Does anyone got a solution to this ?

    :o

    [moved from Software by spinynorman]

  10. HI !

I've searched this topic on several boards and forums, but can't find any absolute solution to my problem. I've just installed Mandrake 10.1 comm. and got only Konqueror as web browser. I want to install the Macromedia flashplayer plugin for this browser. But how ?

When su to root, I unpacked the flashplayer file and then in console; "./flashplayer-installer.sh" the installer starts, but can't find any directory to put the files in. It asks for mozilla or opera plugins directory, but I don't have any !?! Do I have to download Mozilla or Opera to use this flashplayer in Konqueror ? And yeah I know..... Maybe Mozilla or Opera or any other browsers are better, but I got to have a clean answer on this first !!!!

To set a final conclusion. Period.

    :thanks:
