  1. ok Ive managed to get further in my quest to have mdk10.1 OE running. After a bit of giggling with the hardware Ive managed to install mdk but get to the part where it checks for new hardware and just after that it tries to open the eth/ppp0 ports. When it gets to the ppp0 it freezes. Since I dont need ppp0 how can i stop this and let mdk carry on booting? I can boot to the commandline via failsafe, so if theres any config files i need to edit, i can use that. Could someone sort me out please. Thanks

    MDK 10.1 DVD

Yeah I installed 10 on DVD, saves you having to swap out the CDs heh.
  3. The motherboard is the DFI nforce 2 Ultra version A. I did update the bios with the top entry here: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/bio..._FLAG=A&SITE=UK but im not sure how to go about what you suggested.
  4. I think this would go for desktop pcs as well it seems. Sadly I may have to try another distro.
  5. Someone has suggested that I might need to get rid of this nforce motherboard.
  6. Well I tried artee's suggestion but sadly even trying to load the 2.4.x kernel didnt help. It still freezes in the same place.
  7. ill go try that, thanks. Can I then move up to the later kernel after mdk is intalled? Or should i avoid it?
  8. how do i do that? I bought this copy of linux. I guess i can download the first cd and try that.
  9. Ok I tried taking the power plug off the sata drive and then booting from the install cd. Unfortunately this didnt work.
  10. I have an Abit Siluro FX5600 Ultra with 128MB RAM
  11. KDE 3.3 isnt installed by default. Its best to manually choose the apps to install then you should be able to choose to install kde 3.3.
  12. It freezes just after you press enter on the install menu, a whole load of boot text scrolls past then i get: <0> kernel panic: attempting to kill init! Ive not gotten to the stage yet where you chose where to install mdk. I normally install it onto the IDE drive though.
  13. I just received mdk10.1 official in the post today. However when I try to install it from the cd, it freezes. I then remembered that mdk10 did the same so I tried passing linux noapic nolapic after pressing F1 on the install menu. But this time around it had no effect and install still froze. I have a 16gb s-ata HD as primary and a 40gb IDE drive as secondary (this has mdk10 already installed). I also have a DFI LanParty nforce2 Ultra motherboard. Been searching google for the past hour with little result.
