  1. In the '/home/user/desktop' directory I found a very suspicious dynamic icon linking to xsane, wich I deleted. But there is another one for kooka wich I could only delete as super user. The problem is that after reboot, it came up again. Is there a way to remove permanently? I believe this the one that screws up the icon position on the desktop. Thank for any suggestion.
  2. A few days ago, i had to reinstall mandrake linux on my pc, it seemed a good opportunity to switch from 8.1 to 9.2. Well, may be it was not a good idea. Now, each time kde is started icons change location, and sometimes they are on top of each other. Every time I need to reorganize them. Is there anything to do about this? Also, I would like to report the following encountered so far: -windows disk hda1 was entirely deleted during installation, although I did not repartition this disk. -fax2send will not install anymore -win4lin will not install either -rekallqt does not work -crossover does not work either -corrector 101 does not work Well it seems that everything that did not come with 9.2 will not work. I am reconsidering going back to 8.1 since I need all the above. Unless, someone can give some advise to make the above mentioned software to work, I will have to de it. To all people I talk to about migrating to linux, they tell me ok but I need the equivalent of word, excell, access and my accounting software. I can tell there is no equivalent to access for linux and accounting software are almost non existent. I am wondering what the linux people are waiting for? If I have to buy new software after each release, I will have perhaps to go back to windows. Thanks for any comments or suggestions.
  3. Recompiling the Kernel sounds like a potentaily risky operation. Also a win4lin compiled kernel is being used to run some specific sofware not available for Linux wich makes it more difficult. Since this PC is very important for my Business, I do not want to take the risk of damaging the system and having to reinstall everything. However, I am considering upgrading to 9.1 when it becomes available and I hope it will be able to use more memory on a standard basis since high memory is know very common and not expensif. Thanks for your replies.
  4. In use is mandrake 9.0 on Athlon 1800 PC. I started with 512 Mb memory and everything was fine, Linux detected about that amount of memory. Now after upgrading to 1,5 Gb it detects only 902 Mb. At Boot the motherboard says there are 1.5 Gb. Everything works fine except that strange memory amount of 902 Mb. Just wondering what is going on and what can be done to solve this problem? Thanks for any suggestion.
  5. In use is Kde 2.2.1. The sound module is es1371. Nothing particular was changed and as I said, on one of the computers the problem with realplayer occurs at random. First I sought it had something to do with win4lin, but the problem appears also when it is not loaded.
  6. Mandrake 8.1 - basic Soundblaster board. After installing the sound board on Mandrake 8.1 everything went fine. I started Realplayer and could listen to music. Now, the next time I start the computer and try to run Realplayer I get the following messge; "audio device may used by another application". It is really strange, since I did not use anything before. This message appears also somtimes on another computer with 8.1 but and it will usualy work after a new boot, but not on this one What can be done about his problem ? Also I have never been able to listen to CD's on 8.1 nor on 8.2 but the system sound, realplayer and xine do have sound. Perhaps there is also some way to fix this problem? Thanks for any suggestion.
