ok i've done all that now, its still trying to use the Python 2.4 and the newest one I downloaded right now is 2.5, how do i make it look into the 2.5 and not 2.4

its disgusting the amount of time it can take to install one simple thing, every rpm that i download, it fails because it needs another one, no wonder people are scared sh*tless of leaving their windows boxes, what use is a stable secure system if you cant even use it to do what you want to do? can take HOURS just to install one simple app

I downloaded and extracted gDesklets-0.34.1, now when i try to ./configure i get the following error:

aha! ^_^ got that installed, now i read to test the 3-D acceleration, you type "glxgears" into konsole, it was working before, but now i get the error:

well, i just did urpmi kernel-source, that worked out fine, but now theres ANOTHER problem..

I tried going to the "Edit K Menu", and i dont know why but the thing that comes up now to edit the menu is different than what I used to get when I clicked Edit K Menu

edit: i tried going to run and typing in "kmenuedit" (without quotes duh) and i got an error message saying "KDEInit could not launch 'kmenu-preferences-switch'"

i was screwing around with my menu editor today, and i've kinda messed my menu up, everythings all arranged differently, and some things dont even show up at all >_<. how can i reset it to the way i first installed mandrake?

i have the 'libjavaplugin_oji.so' in my firefox plugins folder, copied it from '/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_06/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32' (i have like 6 of the plugin.so files but this is like the only one that lets firefox start at all) and when i go to somewhere like uh yahoo chat, it just closes

I have java installed and today i tried to install Limewire, and i get this:

i've edited it, i just keep getting

why doesnt it reinstall the whole thing when i go into rescue? what the hells the point at looking at my conf file if i want it to reinstall anyway?

BTW: that line its saying on line 20, i took that out a long time ago.

okay, after about a half hour of that, i finally decided to just try option 1, this time it actually worked, i went to reinstall boot loader, and i got the SAME error msg i was getting that i got in knoppix

ok im in knoppix right now, starting to get REALLY pissed off now, i cant chroot, i get:

and i tried editing lilo.conf, says i cant write it, so i go as su and chmod a=rwx and i still cant write to it, what do i do now?!

i recently installed winxp on the rest of the hdd space i had, but now when i turn on teh computer, it just goes straight into xp, i asked around other places they said something about my MBR being overwritten? eh they told me to boot from the cd, i posted back that the cd just takes me into setup, and when i hit F1 for options, it goes into setup anyway, so question now is, how do i get into mandrake...?

ahhh got it working now, had to do ./visualboyadvance game-name :)

ok, i downloaded this earlier, gotta have teh gameboy games, and i have no idea where to start, there is an executable file in there but when i ./ it, i just get a bunch of options, and nothing on how to start playing it, the readme says i need gcc, i have gcc, and it tells me to read INSTALL, heh there aint even an INSTALL in there... got version 1.7 (eh says something about glib22) as you probably know, im a linux noob... any help appreciated

the problem seems to be a lot bigger. the gui is ALL jacked up, and its changing everything into read only, when i tried to turn it off, it gave me a whole bunch of ext3 journalize errors..... but all this from just opening one. mp3?

hmm weird.. when i try to open a specific song from my win ntfs partition, amaroK just freezes up, and if i try to unmount windows, i just get:
