  1. Thanks a lot , speed is improved without Kat and lisa !

It is still a bit slower when a file is to be loaded .Do you see something wrong ? ( in adsl-status the link appears down though it is working fine ?!?)

    [root@localhost lando]# service -s

adsl-status: Link is down (can't read pppoe PID file /var/run/pppoe.conf-adsl.pid.pppoe)

PS -How can I do to apply all updates ? :wall:

  2. The way below had not worked also if I don't know why ...........

File Association > Known Type > video > Add > .wmv

The right way it is that below ....

    File Association > Known Type > video > select x-msvideo > Filename Patterns > Add > *.wmv

  3. If in KDE go to "configure your desktop" -> components ->file associations. You can then set an application to be opened for a file type. I don't know the Gnome stuff, but there's a similar way of setting associations.

I've KDE and the setting works for .mpg because is already in the file list .

But if I want to add .wmv though the operation proceed ok ...this (and other ...) extension is not added in the list !!! ( Totem Movie Player tries to open this extension but it's not able because a codec is missing....and mplayer open this file using the file menu "open with" entry....)

    :oops::thanks:

  4. I've installed mplayer ...and it works if I choose it through the file menu entry "Open with " .

In the file menu' there is a Totem media player entry that I do not want to use...

What have I to set so that mplayer can open a video file with a simple double clic on it ?

    Thanks a lot ! :thanks:

  5. I cannot get the problem......

    [root@localhost GUARDDOGMDK]# urpmi guarddog

    no package named guarddog

    [root@localhost GUARDDOGMDK]# dir

    guarddog-2.4.0-2mdk.i586.rpm guarddog-2.4.0-2mdk.src.rpm

there is guarddog in this directory !

I' ve MDK 10 and it is my first time that I try to use urpmi ........

Many thanks for your help !

    Regards.

  6. As I said it's not an hardware problem !

I've get the solution searching "writing to devices is not supported " with Google !

It's a supermount problem, disabling it (supermount disable ) and opening mnt/floppy (after mount /mnt/floppy) it is possible paste files with the browser (this because the floppy icon is desappeared from the desktop ). :juggle:

  7. My floppy cannot write in MDK 10 environment but is OK under Knoppix live .

I get "writing to devices is not supported " doing a copy /paste .

No messages but it desn't work using cp or dd utilities from terminal.

    fstab is > /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy auto noauto,users,rw 0 0

    mnt/floppy permissions are >>> rwxrwxrwx

I've tried in root and with my user name.

    Any suggestion ?

    Thanks a lot, regards.

  8. This DVD contains MDK 10 , FreeBSD 5.2.1 and many other data . The distros are in .ISO format that I'll have to burn on many CD ......then it's not a bootable DVD...and it works fine in windows environment....

  9. The DVD containing MDK installation data cannot open (the same DVD works fine in windows ! ). The fstab entry is below ... is it OK ?

    /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom auto mask=0,user,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto,ro,exec 0 0

  10. I've just installed this editor .I can build a program but when I want to execute it with SCITE Tools/Go I get sh: line1 : programname : command not found

What have I to do to execute a program under Scite ?

    Thanks a lot. :help:

  11. I've an old Glib-2.2.3 installed at prefix /usr (from MDK 10 distro )

and the new Glib-2.4.6 at the prefix /usr/local .

Pango ./configure shows this log (with variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH already set ) >>>>>

    checking for pkg-config... (cached) /usr/bin/pkg-config

    checking for GLIB - version >= 2.4.0...

    *** 'pkg-config --modversion glib-2.0' returned 2.4.6, but GLIB (2.2.3)

*** was found! If pkg-config was correct, then it is best

*** to remove the old version of GLib. You may also be able to fix the error

*** by modifying your LD_LIBRARY_PATH enviroment variable, or by editing

*** /etc/ld.so.conf. Make sure you have run ldconfig if that is

    *** required on your system.

*** If pkg-config was wrong, set the environment variable PKG_CONFIG_PATH

*** to point to the correct configuration files

I prefer to keep also the old version of Glib , then how can I modify LD_LIBRARY_PATH

or what have I to put in /etc/ld.so.conf ???

    Sorry...I'm a beginner......Thanks a lot in advance. :help:

    Regards.
