  1. I installed an 8 serial / pci interface card. It is recognized as "Oxford Semiconductor Ltd OX16PCI954 (Quad 16950 UART) function 0 (Uart)". And really, only four serials are available to the linux world. Into xp the driver provided by the maker allows to use all the eight serials. Now, I need to use the fifth serial into mandriva. The instruction manual of the "Sunix" card, talks about a kernel patch and a kernel recompile for 2.6 kernels. I don't want to recompile the kernel as I'll must recompile on every kernel upgrade from now. Perhaps, the right module is already included into the mandriva kernel, only I must know how is named. If it is compiled as module I could load it: a dream. I would be very happy to share suggestions on that. Massimo
  2. Is just what I needed ! Thanks Jboy Massimo
  3. Yes, just to let my wife use her company's laptop (preconfigured with win2000, untouchable !) with the messages, threads already stored into kontact/kmail of my 2006 machine. I haven't found any export command into kmail. There is a way ? Thanks. Massimo
  4. Thanks for your answers, now I'm more shure on what to do ! Massimo
  5. I have a dual boot system between mandriva 2005le and windows 98se. Now I plan to upgrade from 98se to windows 2000. I'll do the upgrade after erasing (formatting ?) all the windows 98se partition to start windows 2000 from scratch. The whole thing could be done as I did several times with 98se (i.e. installing windows 2000 and then rewriting the boot sector using the first cd of 2005le) ? Thanks. Massimo Corinaldesi
  6. It was wine itself to choose, during install, the {HOME}/win directory as c:\. Now I want to separe win4lin from wine because I suspect some initialisation files may be different. That could be possible using winesestuptk. Me too I choosed win4lin, although it has a non complete emulation of audio interface and do not allow for direct hardware access. Unfortunately, Netraverse has changed its policy, almost cancelling the development of 2.4 enabled kernels and limiting, for 2.6, to "generic" kernels, not specific for Fedora, Mandrake, Suse, and so on. Kernel source patches will be only available for "mailine" kernels. That is what I undestand reading its website. So said, we must soon recompile mandrake kernels sources with patches released from Netraverse hoping a patch written for a "mainline" kernel will create a kernel running on our mandrake machines. I think there will be problems. Mandrake team too seems to have already decided to abandon the development of further 2.4 enabled kernels. I've not yet decided to upgrade my mandrake 9.2 from 2.4 kernel to 2.6 as I'm lazy, I have many compiled programs, I want do the tuning-after-upgrading process as late as I can. So I can't for now use the mandrake team produced 2.6 enabled kernels. After that, I decided to try if wine could do the job for me. I'm not interested on games, into the windows box I'm interested on install maily amaterur radio software not yet translated to linux. Thanks for your help. Massimo Corinaldesi :deal:
  7. In my mandrake 9.2 system I already installed win4lin and it works well. Now, I want to try wine and I installed the packages found on the distro cds. Wine, may be searching for native dll, installed choosing for C:\ partition the win4lin "C:\" directory found into my home directory. Now, I'm not sue I can run wine safely from a win4lin point of view... The described situation is dangerous ? Or could be better to tell wine to use a different C:\ directory (less the native dlls) ? In the second option: HOW ? There's a lot to help me.... Massimo Corinaldesi
  8. I don't want to start a flame. But wy don't do a complete hd image over a second similar hard disk ? That needs, I think, a boot with knoppix or mandrake-move or similar, then leave the system do an overnight backup. That way, too, the recovery could be as fast as swapping two hard disk craddles. Comments welcome. Massimo Corinaldesi
  9. I run mandrake 9.2 over two ata100 60G hard disks. The situation is: - diskdrake tells me an ext2 data-only partion I created is 20G wide - with konqueror I can put no more than 9.6G into that partition -"configure your desktop" tells me that partition is 9.6G wide - windows98 is no more bootable with lilo - windows98 partitions are regularly accessed when mounted - fdisk tells me the windows partions are FAT16 (they're in effect FAT32) - fstab tells me the windows partitions are mounted as vfat. The question is how to find where I was wrong handling my partitions ? Massimo Corinaldesi
  10. That is. Me too I thought the safiest way is to reinstall. But hoped someone knows a trick to avoid this...
  11. Please, as I said the windows partitions are: hda1, hda5, hda10. The linux partitions are: hda2, hda6, hda7, hda8, hda9 and hda11 for swap. Could be a strange situation, but it is. Now, I wish wipe out hda1, hda5, hda10.
  12. "/boot" from hda2 will be hda1, "/" from hda6 will be hda5 and so on...
  13. In my current hd there is windows 98 installed in front of mandrake 9.1. What I plan to do, after installing win4lin I ordered yesterday, is to remove the windows partitions (one primary + two extended), assigning the left space to mandrake, reinstalling windows98 from scratch into win4lin. Doing so, I'll change all the partitions names (I have separate partitions for /boot, /, /usr, /home, /tmp and swap). Provided I'll make a backup, wich is the safest way to do the job of renaming partitions references: only lilo and fstab ? Massimo

    QSSTV

I downloaded the 5.2D from the ON1MH website. The QSSTV manual talks about "QT version 2.2 and higher". Mandrake 9.1 contains QT 3. The "configure" does not tell me it can't find the QT. Actually, the "configure" does not report any error. So I think QTs are not the problem.

    QSSTV

Did someone tell me how compile qsstv on mandrake 9.1 ? The configure ends with no error but make shows two errors I'm not able to understand. I installed the rpm for zlib1-devel, all libjpeg*, xfree86-devel. Which other libs must I install ? Massimo Corinaldesi I0MCF http://www.ziomassimo.it
