  1. I am using a windows client - if that makes any difference - I copied the client.id_dsa.key from the server to the .../nxclient/share folder on windows machine - if that is what you are referring to above? what should it say - sorry - I am fairly new to nx ? Can you explain further how I would do this too? Thanks for the advice in advance - I really appreciate it
  2. Hi everyone, Just trying to get freenx running and I have a bit of an issue - when connecting to the server from a client I get the following error message: NX> 203 NXSSH running with pid: 3288 NX> 285 Enabling skip of SSH config files NX> 200 Connected to address: 192.168.2.34 on port: 22 NX> 202 Authenticating user: nx NX> 208 Using auth method: publickey NX> 204 Authentication failed. I copied the client key from the server to the client share folder - still get the same error Any ideas? Thanks in Advance
  3. Sorry, maybe I did not make myself clear, I want the funky sounds and since disabling and re-enabling ARTS I have no sounds now - all my other program sounds are running fine - just not X sounds - so wont disabling it will result in what I have already - i.e. no sound in X?????
  4. Hi Everyone, I hope this is the right forum choice for this issue but I have a small problem. As part of a diagnoses of why I had no sound running cvscedega/winex I was told to disable ARTS in the KDE Control Panel. The problem was later resolved with an unrelated setting chance in the winex control file. So I decided to re-enable ARTS (or as it is called in the control center the sound system). However, since then I have no sound in X other than applications like winex or websites with embedded sound. I so not here things like the startup or shutdown themes or the system bell in the console when I type something wrong. If I go into the control panel and click test sound - I hear the startup music. if I hit midi - I hear nothing. I looked at the services in the Mandrake Linux control center and ALSA and SOUND both are check to start at boot and both advise a running status. Under my auto-suspend setting it is set to 1 sec. I am using the on-board Nvidia Nforce 2 sound card. I really do not want to have to reload 10.1 to fix this issue, but I have not been able to see any other solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks TheSonic1 Mandrake 10.1 Abit NF7-S v2 w/ XP2800+ 512mb OCZ Dual Channel DDR kit Custom Water-cooled Swifttech system for CPU/VID/NB MSI Ti4200 VTD 128mb
  5. Also, does anyone use Mandrake 10.1 with the full version of Cedega (4.3)- maybe it is worth the subscription to fix all these issues? Also, since disabling and re-enabling ARTS - my bootup and shutdown sounds are no longer present - anyone know how to fix this too?
  6. I got the sound going by changing the config to run OSS instread of ALSA in the config file - maxpayne2 still will not run says the "Sounds" database is incomplete error but COD runs however, when you exit it locks up - need to reboot to free it up - any further ideas?
  7. also: Just logged int ICEWM and ran from console as root - same error - I am sure it has something to do with winealsa.drv - as I looked at the startup script after trying to run both maxpayne2 and cod from the console as root as both refference that file - and I can not seen to find where that is supposed to be located
  8. Disabled the sound system option is the KDE Sound system config screen in 10.1 - same error - even restarted to see if the setting was still disabled and it was. Interestingly I did a search for winealsa.drv and I have no file by that name - do you know where it is supposed to be located?
  9. I tried with old version 4.2.1 RPM and 1.3.2 point2play and got the exact same error messages. So I do not think it is CVS issue
  10. Hi Everyone, Hopefully someone can help me. I can not run any games using CVSCedega. I have installed them using cedega and loki installers and both complete fine. The problem occurs when I try to run them. Like MaxPayne2 for example - it starts fine and I get the Video setting screen prompt I click play and imediately get this error: Exception in engineInit:X_SharedDB: There was nothing inside "Sounds", database incomplete So I thought maybe that game was just bad so I installed Call of Duty using loki installer and tried to run it, here is what I got: err:module:BUILTIN_LoadModule loaded .so but dll winealsa.drv still not found So I think it is safe to say that I have a sound issue. But I am not sure what to do to fix it. I am running ALSA and it starts at startup and I have Sound in X and in native games like Doom3. So I am not sure what is happening here - Here is my cvscedega config file as it refers to sound: [Wineserver] ;; This option indicates if Cedega should accelerate ;; interprocess communication (AIC) between the client ;; and server. "SHMWineserver" = "Y" [WinMM] "Drivers" = "winealsa.drv" ;"Drivers" = "wineoss.drv" "WaveMapper" = "msacm.drv" "MidiMapper" = "midimap.drv" [wineoss] "UseMMap" = "N" "FullDuplex" = "N" ;; Specify a mapping for what digital audio devices to use ;"dsp0" = "/dev/dsp0" ;"mixer0" = "/dev/mixer0" [winealsa] ;; This option allows you to configure Cedega to write directly ;; to memory on the sound card rather than having to use the ;; slower route through the kernel. "UseMMap" = "Y" ;; These options allow you to specify what ALSA sound devices ;; Cedega should use. Appropriate selection of these options ;; can allow you to select a secondary sound card or a plugin. ;"pcm0" = "hw" ;"ctl0" = "hw" Does anyone know where I should start? Running Mandrake 10.1 with 2.6 kernel and GF4 Ti4200 vid card. Any help would be appreciated, as you can tell I am kinda new at gaming in linux, but really would like to get it going so I can finally kick the winxp habit for good. Thanks in Advance, TheSonic1

  12. Hi Everyone, I am trying to install CedegaCVS using the WineCVS from Linux-Gamers site and I have search all over for the fix but after trying everything I have found I still get the same error. 13. Then I can't wait for 10.1 official, 10.0 was not stable enough for my liking when I tried it with my SATA - I will stick with 9.2 untill 10.1 is released. Thanks for all your help everyone, and I will update you on those tests when I get a chance to try them. TheSonic1
  14. OK, I fixed it and I think I may have found something at least with this kernel, and 10.0's kernel too for SIL3112A The reasons the mounts worked from the install was that they were primary partitions on the SATA drive - diskdrake when I was creating the new partition was trying to create an extended partition. For whatever reason MDK 9.2 and 10.0 could not mount that extended Partition. HOWEVER, I used PQ MAGIC to create a third Primary Partition on the STAT (NTFS) and used diskdrake to set the mount point and it mounted successfully. I am going to test with an ext3 fs Primary Partition. AND I think that also may be the issue with the install on the SATA for 9.2 & 10.0. I was using Auto allocate which uses the same partitioning programs as Diskdrake does. Therefore in theory if I create the 3 partitions on the drive that the install does (i.e. /, /swap, /home) using PQ Magic then try to install to the existing partitions now on the SATA it may work. The question is will the install or system be hindered in any way by doing the partition table this way? I will try the ext3 one first and then the install and let you know, also as requested here is my fstab file. /dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1 none /dev/pts devpts mode=0620 0 0 /dev/hda6 /home ext3 defaults 1 2 none /mnt/cdrom supermount dev=/dev/scd0,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0 none /mnt/cdrom2 supermount dev=/dev/scd1,fs=udf:iso9660,ro,--,iocharset=iso8859-1 0 0 none /mnt/floppy supermount dev=/dev/fd0,fs=ext2:vfat,--,sync,iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,codepage=850 0 0 /dev/hde1 /mnt/win_c ntfs iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,ro 0 0 /dev/hde2 /mnt/win_d ntfs iocharset=iso8859-1,umask=0,ro 0 0 /dev/hde3 /mnt/win_e ntfs defaults 0 0 none /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/hda5 swap swap defaults 0 0 Thanks for your help everyone, 1 less confused newbie, TheSonic1
  15. I tried 7 times with MDK 10 to install to SATA even though my controller is supported according to the documentation SIL3112A. But all 7 times it failed and only way I could get installed was through ATA drive as hda. I never tried with 9.2 on 10. So I re-installed the ATA drive and loaded 10 - but it kept crashing so I formatted and loaded 9.2 on the ATA. Are you saying that the SATA load will work on 9.2 as documentation does not show SIL3112A controller as supported and I found no articles that indicate that it would work with 9.2 - 9.1 failed and 10.0 failed so I assumed that 9.2 would too - never attempted it. And from my current issues, with SATA, it looks like it has similar issues. If you have more to add please feel free to advise. Thanks, TheSonic1
