3.  A bit too stripped down.  I found I had to apt-get too many things to get the system I wanted.  apt-geting is no big deal, but the time used to download all that stuff adds up realy quickly.  I like having multi-CD's like Mandrake PowerPack, for the convenience of getting everything I like very quickly and easily.

That's one of the reason why I like Ubuntu. No unwanted software, I choose and decides which application/programs I want in my OS. I'm on cable so it doesn't bother me, but I can see if people are using dial up it can be frustrating. But again I don't hope that Dial up users are using the downloadble version of Mandrake

Here's a trick to spped up Open Office (and Star Office for that matter)

Open Open Office.

'Tools' tab ---> 'Option' ---> 'Memory' . Set 'Memory Per Object' to 2.0 mb

I don't know if these are avaible for Mandrake reps. but also get

ooqstart-gnome or oooqs-kde and enable it. Eg. in Gnome 'Right click on the panel', then 'add to panel', choose 'OOffice quickstarter'.

When the icon appear, right click it and choose 'preference'. Then click 'enable quick launch'.

Now you can open eg. a text doc. via the OO icon (right click on it).

That way I made my OO 60% faster! (and that's alot)

My OO time is around 1-2 sec. now
