  1. I just installed the firefox browser and the thundermail client (or at least thought I did) but I can't find the links to open them anywhere. THey aren't listed in any of my menus. I went to the download site, clicked on the link, did "open file" and then when all of the files came up, I clicked on the first file in the list, which appeard to be the installer file. It took me through the graphical install of both programs and opened them up when finished. However, after closing them out, I can not figure out how to reopen them. What am I doing wrong?

  2. The clock in the system tray on my Mandrake box at home reflects the right time, but the emails sent from the box don't. My wife just sent me a couple emails from home and the sent time was one hour ago. I was talking to her on the phone when she sent them, so I know they didn't arrive an hour late. What's the deal?

  3. OK so the way I get this is your computer has 2 Nics. One for your internet connection and one for your local Lan. Correct?

And you have no firewall running??

As for finding the linux box. via windows explorer try this:

    Open Explorer

    click on "My Network Places"

    click on "Entire Network"

RIGHT CLICK on "Microsoft Windows Network"

    select  "explore"

new window should open with listed workgroups.

If you are shareing a connection via one box I highly advise you get a firewall up. I almost sounds like you are shareing your folders with the world....

If you're behind a router or switch, why would you need to turn on internet connection sharing? I have 3 computers networked together and never did any special configurations to them. They all had access from the time I plugged them into my router.

  4. Configure the firewall in mcc and shorewall will be installed and configured. Very easy, and all that is needed for basic setups.

I remember during the configuration of the firewall that you couldn't turn it on unless some things like ftp, http, dns, etc servers were checked. What I'm not sure about is, is it asking if you will be connecting to those types of servers, or acting as one of those types of servers? I didn't check any of them and thus my firewall is not activated because I didn't understand it.

Also, is the firewall easy to configure? I have two other computers on my network and I need to share files between them.

  5. Question, how would you reinstall your video driver if you didn't know where to find it? For example, when I installed Mandrake, it found a driver for my NVidia graphics card. If I installed some updates that wrote over the graphics driver, requiring it to be reinstalled, how would I do that? I don't know where to get the linux driver for my NVidia card.

  6. How do you change your homepage? I am currently using Konqueror and I would like to know how I can change the homepage to something I want, instead of seeing the "Welcome to Mandrake Linux" page each time I open the browser.

  7. Why is there a Linux Google web site? How is it any different from the regular Google website? Also, is it possible to put a search engine in my web browser because I'm tired of going to google.com to search for something.
