  1. ah hah! easyurpmi is back up! WHOOOOOOOOoooooo.. i've started the kernel source download now, will let you know how it goes. about the 6629 driver, i read on another board that the support for tnt2 cards was broken in 6629, and to try an earlier version. i picked out 5536, which, according to the board, works fine, so i picked that one up and am waiting for the kernel source to download. thanks for the help guys!

  2. thanks i will try that.

edit: i looked at the patch and im not using a PCI card but i downloaded it anyways. none of the above did help. i changed the driver to nvidia, and added the nvagp option shown up there but it still didn't work right. i heard a while back on #MUSB that there was a fix for an nvidia problem in the 10.1 beta i believe. is it still on the board? as for the --add-this-kernel option, i tried that already and it doesn't work because i dont have the kernel source, and since urpmi is down, i cant really get the kernel source..

  3. there is no line underneath "load glx". my xorg file looks like this right now.

and what you're talking about is on 10.1 right?

  4. hello all, im having some issues w/the latest nvidia driver. i just recently installed 10.1 CE wiping my whole system clean in the process. so i downloaded the nvidia drivers (im using a Riva TNT2), version 6629, went to init 3 from root console in KDE, switched to root, and then proceeded to install the drivers. after i finished, i tried starting KDE, and when i ran glxinfo it gave me a bunch of errors saying "...missing GLX extension". i then edited the XF86Config (i use Xorg i believe, so why is this here? i changed it back to "nv") file, changing "nv" to "nvidia" in the driver section, since the "glx" part was already there. i then restart my system and get thrown to a console where i proceed to login and 'startx' from root. in short, i was able to finally get X started, but the screen was all messed up, like the images were "stuck" on the screen, the mouse trailed and didn't go away, and things just didn't look right. it goes away after i change the "nvidia" back to "nv", and ive uninstalled the drivers. any ideas on how to fix this? thanks for the help.

  5. no i haven't tried that, ive re-installed gaim 0.82. artsd is also crashing on me at startup, and i think they're connected somehow. im trying to connect to AIM. oh and, ive been urpmi --auto-select -ing. it never finishes all the packages its trying to download tho. would that have anything to do with it? i assume that if i stop it as soon as it begins at a certain package, it'll just pick up at that particular package and keep going until it finishes everything...am i right? thx for the help.

  6. im having some problems w/GAIM. starting w/0.82 (worked fine), i updated to the latest version, 1.0.0. after i finished installing from RPM (downloaded from the gaim website), i started GAIM and tried to IM someone. as soon as i hit enter, it crashed on me. i ended up getting rid of 1.0.0, and moving back to 0.82, but now that crashes on me too. any ideas? im gaim-less ATM.

  7. i was just wondering, why isn't it a good idea to put a hard drive on the same IDE cable/channel as a CD-ROM drive? or how about using the first PCI slot after the AGP? ive heard that it's a general rule not to use the first PCI slot after the AGP. and, on a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being best) how good do you think MDK Linux's compatibility with other hardware is? Like the modern mobo's(anyone try PCI Express cards on Linux yet?) and what not?

  8. has anyone here been able to find some Mandrake 10 KDE 3.3 RPMS? URPMI doesn't bring up anything w/"KDE" & "3.3" in it.

ive also been trying to install this "comix" theme for KDE, and after i "./configure --prefix=/usr", i typed in "make" and it gave me this output at the end:

    ....
grep: /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.la: No such file or directory
/bin/sed: can't read /usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.la: No such file or directory
libtool: link: `/usr/X11R6/lib/libGL.la' is not a valid libtool archive
    make[3]: *** [kstyle_comix_config.la] Error 1
    make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/e_tuvera_jr/tmp/comix-1.0/comix/config'
    make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
    make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/e_tuvera_jr/tmp/comix-1.0/comix'
    make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
    make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/e_tuvera_jr/tmp/comix-1.0'
    make: *** [all] Error 2

any ideas? thanx. (btw, does any1 here use the SuperKaramba Slickbar? some of the panels aren't available in the configuration menu, so im guessing im missing some sort of Python package. thanx in advance.)

  9. hello. the internet just conked out in Linux. im in windows right now posting this. i dont know what happened, i just re-installed Windows on a separate drive and all of a sudden the 'net in Linux doesn't work anymore. ive edited modprobe.conf to include

    "alias net-pf-10 off"

and ive taken out "alias eth0 via-rhine" and put it back in. the nameservers in resolv.conf keep changing, and i THINK that this is the problem. anyway to get it to stop changing?
