It's unbelievable. I never would of thought that gnome would be dropped. It was always such a stable desktop.

From /etc/modprobe.conf, I get this:

I tried 2 other browsers, Chromium and Opera, and still no sound.

In order to get skype working better, I removed pulseaudio. Now skype works better and I can still watch DVDs and listen to music, but I cannot get sound from internet sources, such as a news site. I've tried alsamixer in console and kmix, but no luck. Any idea where I can start finding the problem, and fixing it?

I forgot to mention that I use xine for my dvds and music.

I can't help you with the window not closing, but Ian resolved my problem of getting the video working in skype. Check here

I had the same problem with my HP deskjet 845C. If I remember correctly, the problem was resolved by updating to 2010.1. Before that, I just had to reset all my document settings in OpenOffice to compensate for the problem. Maybe there's a different "cups" file you can install which will take care of the problem.

I know this sounds strange, but I can only add them at the end of all the other icons. Afterwards, I can move it to where I want.

I know this is going to sound dumb, but have you tried to set up the mouse settings again in MCC?

I had the same problem. I had to go to MCC and "test" my video driver. After that, it would work until the next boot. By disabling desk top effects in "configure your desktop", that problem was resolved.

Have you tried a different driver, and not the one recommended? I had a similar problem with 2010.0, but by choosing a different driver, I was able to get my printer working.

EDIT: I should have read your post more carefully. I was writing about saving videos, not livestream feeds. I have not tried to save a livestream feed.

:P I still tried it, using the wikipedia link given by boatman. I downloaded opera and tried to run the link, but opera won't run it. It just sits there saying that it is opening it.

Boatman, gotta question. Do I have to run wireshark in root. Actually, that's the only way I can get it to work.

I have 3 capture devises listed, lo, eth0 and Pseudo-device. In the window that opens up after clicking on "Follow TCP Stream", this is the output in the window that opens up:

Hey, I finally got wireshark up and going. Now for the dumb question. After I see all the numbers all over the place, what number/line am I suppose to enter into xine or mplayer to record a livestream? BTW, I did read the instructions to wireshark, and I even tried to understand them!

Perhaps they're just guessing. If it's not released in 10 days, it won't be Spring any more. :)

Thanks for the help. I knew what the stream was, because I would start RAI in console, and the stream would be listed. The first day after your post, I was able to get the livestream working (to see it that is) in mplayer, but never in xine. I never did figure out how to record it in either player. Then the second day, RAI changed it's web site, also putting on a special filter or something, and now I can't even watch it, let alone anything else. Starting firefox in console, like before, and going to RAI, only shows that there is a "security" issue (or something like that). The security issue is only that they will not let me see the livestream file anymore. Therefore I tried to install Wireshark, but I couldn't get it working. After that, I just gave up. :P As I said, I can't even watch RAI in linux because the moonlight program isn't able to handle it. The only way to watch RAI now is in WXP.

Is it possible to save a film from a livestream, then later play it back? I was thinking of a RAI program(the Italian TV). An example would be RAI 2

OK, willie, I tried what you said. I was able to open the icon, but it was already marked (checked/ticked) 'Always launch on startup'. So anyways I decided to wait until there were some updates (checking through MCC) to see if it would work, and sure enough - nope, it didn't. So in console, I started the applet, and after a couple of minutes it appeared, then I downloaded the new updates. So it still isn't working, but as I said, it is marked to 'launch on startup'. Any ideas?

In KDE, you can go to 'Configure Desktop', and in there you can find an icon named 'Keyboard and mouse'. With that, you can change the shortcuts.

In console, I can run 'mdkapplet' and I will be notified of updates, otherwise no. In 'mdkapplet-config' there are 2 options: 'Check for newer "Powerpack" releases' and "Check for missing "Restricted" media'. The only one checked is the 2nd choice above. How can I get the applet to run automatically?

:D Thanks! Got it working. There is one oddity, though. No big deal really. When we turn on the computer, the skype window comes on. That's the skype I don't want. We close it out, then click on the icon I created on the desktop to start the skype we do want. Is there anyway to keep that first window from appearing? If not, it's really no big deal. I'm just happy that we can use the video!

In console, I can start skype with the LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype command, and the video works fine. How can I get it to start with that command automatically when the computer starts? I've tinkered around with it, adding it to some files, but no luck.
