  1. Hi there!

Upon running the kde.org supplied Konstruct (make install) after some time I get these errors in terminal.

Can somebody please tell me what's wrong? I'm only 4 months with Linux and don't understand everything yet. :(

  2. maybe with your ati (I think you had a 9800!), but not with mine much older one. Linux driver for my radeon 9000 pro just plainly and really deeply sucks

Maybe it's for the raw power of your card, that you get good preformance. my a lot more dated card relies more on a good driver than your 9800.

and I used that card on windows prior I had linux and the windows driver is much , much better. I got better performance on fully (b)load(t)ed windows than now on mdk/blackbox.

  3. yes, delete this

  5. damnit :D burn them!!!

I have a Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb and though it's an old card it worked great when I had windows.

Now after some months on linux only I decided that I need a game. Subscribed at transgaming->cedega.

Only then noticed that I have no 3D acceleration. To cut it short I spentabout 8 hours yesterday to get the damn driver work properly and... @@#$^#@$%@ that @#$#$ driver is awful.

My favourite game Morrowind lags like it's on a 3dfx voodoo . 2D is nice and flawless , but 3D just sucks (although I have all gl enabled and all).

    next card is Nvidia!

  6. the problems is that Morrowind through Cedega has framerate lags

and no lags when I had windows -> thus the suspicion

because others don't report such lags.

  8. I didn't know if this the right place, so feel free to move this topic

    ---

I have a suspicion that my Radeon 9000 Pro 128mb doesn't fully use the GL

my relevant info looks like this ->

    Section "Module"

        # This loads the DBE extension module.

Load "dbe"  # Double buffer extension

        # This loads the Type1 and FreeType font modules

        Load "type1"

        Load "freetype"

        # This loads the GLX module

        Load "glx"  # libglx.a

        Load "dri"  # libdri.a

        # This loads the miscellaneous extensions module, and disables

        # initialisation of the XFree86-DGA extension within that module.

        Subsection "extmod"

            EndSubsection

    EndSection

    # Option    "omit xfree86-dga"

    # === ATI device section ===

    Section "Device"

        Identifier "ATI Graphics Adapter"

        Driver "fglrx"

        Screen 0

        BusID "PCI:1:0:0"    # vendor=1002, device=496e

        Option "FSAAMSPosY1" "0.000000"

        Option "StereoSyncEnable" "1"

        Option "UseInternalAGPGART" "no"

If somemody else has a fully 3D acceleration enabled Radeon card simmilar to mine (8500-9800)

then please post your data from /etc/X11/XF86Config-4

or just say what is wrong, or .. that all is good

  9. check if the monitor name everywhere is the same where mentioned. like -> "monitor 1" or "monior 0"

    change if needed

also delete any references to monitors you don't have (or graphic cards!) (I know this sounds silly, but it had written some generic sony monitor definitions for my ctx monitor when I messed with the XF86 and a vga graphics card before my Radeon card. I deleted those and everything worked (+some radeon related edits)

  10. I had an ATI 9000 Pro Readon card, trying to set it up drove to the point, and I bought a Nvidia 5600 FX Ultra and I am happy I did

ha! I have the same card. Took me some 8 hours, but I got it working (3D acceleration).

    http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=16365

though when I buy a new video card I will consider Nvidia as an option (a good option) (I'm an ATI fan but their linux support is just ridiculous)

took a bit of madness , trial and error and daring config editing to get my Radeon work

  11. tell us later how it goes

one more thing that might have gone wrong is your monitor. from my experience XF86Config-4 has a bad habit of crashing (well X at least) if the monitor settings are incorrect (it might have set them incorrect by itself. sometimes needs to be corrected by hand. like I just had to when messing with 3D acceleration)

    edit: typo

  12. now on fglrxinfo I get this

    $ glrxinfo

    Loading required GL library /usr/lib/libGL.so.1

    display: :0.0  screen: 0

OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.

OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9000 DDR Generic

    OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.9.0)

that means that the correct driver is being used, although I do not like the name "Generic" by my graphic card

edit: if somebody runs in a simmilar problem, then feel free to PM me and I'll send you my "XF86Config-4" file

I had to delete some parts, had to change some lines (after my last post)

particulary the ones dealing with monitor

  13. one more thing: It seems that the fgrlxconfig although sets monitor frequency settings right as I told it to (35-90 and 50-160 on CTX F711 for me) it later when loaded applies only the minimum

so I advice to set it with a minimum you use not what your monitor is capable of. I set both to 85 and it runs fine.

  14. well

I dished the last XF86Config-4 (god, I'll know this filename while asleep) and made a clean fglrxconfig

opened it before loading X and again saw what I couldn't understand previously

befofe my Radeon there was a VGA card... wtf

I didn't have anything to lose, so I deleted all mention of that "generic" card from the XF86Config

VOILA! it seems that my card now works and from what I get 3D acceleration also works

I'm just not too sure about the quality of it.

oh, and yes -> it had again changed to 1.0.1.

duno why it does so. had to change back to what it in relaity is 1.0.0.

but maybe now, that I know how to get back (and have made a backup of config ;) ) I'll toy some more around with the config to solve that potential unused megabytes problem (I think my acceleration is too slow)

  15. hi

thanx for your note about the XF86

I looked at it more closely from outside X (with installed but not running driver)

and noticed that it says that my graphics card is on 1.0.1. when in reality it is on 1.0.0.

so I changed it (and one more ajustment I made "just in case" but it's not important)

so anyways now I have a laughable but not so nice problem :jester::oops:

the thing is that now my X loads but ONLY if I run it as ROOT

    not as user

when I try to run X as user I get this message

    $ kde

Authentication failed - cannot start X server.

Perhaps you do not have console ownership?xinit : Server error

So ok -> I change xinit folder's owner from root to my user (a bad idea)

and now it gives me the previous message, just without the xinit!!

    what is console ownership?

    help me? :)

edit: it's a bit scary to run this box as root, so please - smbody help ;)

edit2: oh and my card is still labeled as :custom:

    same goes for monitor

    but at least X loads

I haven't had the chance to test if 3D acceleration works, but that's on it's way

  16. so, I installed it not going into X

didn't get any of those error messages, but still -> the drivers don't load!!!

MDK output says smthing like ->

can not load monitor 0 , or smthing

I thought that I'm not that stupid , but :help:

I'm sure I have done everything correctly and even more

While experimenting I destroyed my X 5 times and still nothing :evilmod::help:

so what's with the "Operation not permitted" ? I am root, goddamnit :wall:

anyways after I install and restart -> X doesn't load, I get a black screen without X with some error listing. -> restart!

then I insert Mandrake cd's and do a Upgrade so I get that after installation panel.

there I look at my graphic settings and see that monitor and graphic card have gone to-> CUSTOM

so I set them back to CTX and Radeon.

X loads , but with errors (screen resolution screwed) , so I uninstall Radeon drivers, do a X restart

and all is back as it was -> with no 3D. of course because I unistalled the drivers, but the thing is that with the drivers X doesn't even load.

    any help? :( :wall:

    will be very thankful :D
