  2. thanx!

    I have 3 hd's

    this is the 2nd one

    Disk /dev/hdb: 203.9 GB, 203928109056 bytes

    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 24792 cylinders

    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

Device Boot      Start        End      Blocks  Id  System

    /dev/hdb1  *          1        3760    30202168+  83  Linux

Can hdb2 be my CF card?

    edit:

    this is from mcc partitions

    mcc11.jpg

    as you see, I don't have a W95 partition, I don't even have a hdb2 partition

  3. It seems that all the necessary modules are loaded (scsi and usb),

but my Card Reader still is not recognised as USB storage, and it doesn't show up as a scsi device

    [root@localhost]# cat /proc/scsi/scsi

    Attached devices:

    and upon $ cdrecord -scanbus

it doesn't show what bus my Card Reader is on

... it's not on a bus, but it should....

  4. Upon examining /proc/bus/usb/devices

    I found that

    T:  Bus=01 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#=  4 Spd=12  MxCh= 0

    D:  Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs=  1

    P:  Vendor=0d8c ProdID=5000 Rev= 1.00

    S:  Product=USB Card Reader

    C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA

    I:  If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=ff(vend.) Sub=ff Prot=ff Driver=(none)

    E:  Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS=  64 Ivl=0ms

    E:  Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS=  64 Ivl=0ms

How to make it apply a "usb-storage' driver to it?

  5. 60hz is ancient!

Even then you can usually turn the frequency higher on lower resolutions.

I know this thing and it really is harmful for human tissue (eye or skin) to have such a low frequency a few centimetres from you. Even on 1024x

Anyways I have a RealTek ethernet card myself, video card is fairly standart, the mobo's manufacturer sucks independent on the system used. :jester:

Try it (as suggested) with MDK Move

  6. [sarcasm mode] Computer case and floppy might cause a problem. A Samsung hd? Oh horrors! And *gasps a CD-RW drive?! eek[/sarcasm mode]

I don't advice to run the monitor on such a low frequency on such a high resolution. It's very bad for your eyes and face skin.

p.s. You'll have only 16 or 24bit colours on Linux.

  7. Hi!

I know that to do this I need to edit one file, but I've forgotten which and how.

I want that on boot I don't have to press "Esc", so that the boot process details are shown, but it starts with a 'pressed esc" by default.

    Thanx in advance!

  9. Hi there!

I have a 6in1 USB Card Reader and it doesn't automount when I plug it in (with an inserted Compact Flash card).

It also doesn't show up in /dev as sda (or sda1)

My problem is that I can not even make an /etc/fstab entry, because I don't know what device it is.

On harddrake it shows up in Unknown/Others section like this ->

    Identification

    Vendor: ‎Unknown

    Description: ‎USB Card Reader

    Media class: ‎

    Connection

    Bus: ‎USB

    Bus PCI #: ‎1

    PCI device #: ‎7

    Vendor ID: ‎3468

    Device ID: ‎20480

    Misc

    Module: ‎unknown

and this is from log (tail -f /var/log/messages)

Jan  1 11:43:04 localhost su(pam_unix)[22404]: session opened for user root by (uid=501)

Jan  1 11:43:16 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: new full speed USB device using address 7

It shows up in USB Viewer as 'USB Card Reader' and it looks there like this -> screenshot

  12. Just yesterday I sent my sister over email easy urpmi server list.

She lives in the UK and runs MDK 10.0, but you can just modify the "10.0" to "10.1".

Even if easy urpmi is down, the servers are not.

She couldn't access the easyurpmi website, but I still could. weird...

    anyways ->

I had to reinstall Mandrake today (no thanx to the stupid xorg-devel!!) and it depressed me when I learned that PLF is offline,

but with modifying the address I got PLF added to my database.

    [root@localhost]# urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.free.fr/pub/Distributions_Linux/plf/mandrake/10.1 with hdlist.cz
    added medium plf
    examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 2 (cdrom2).cz]
    examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.update_source.cz]
    examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 3 (cdrom3).cz]
    examining synthesis file [/var/lib/urpmi/synthesis.hdlist.Installation CD 1 (cdrom1).cz]
computing md5sum of existing source hdlist (or synthesis)
retrieving source hdlist (or synthesis) of "plf"...
       ftp://ftp.free.fr/pub/Distributions_Linux/plf/mandrake/10.1/hdlist.cz
found probed hdlist (or synthesis) as hdlist.cz
    ...retrieving done
    examining hdlist file [/var/cache/urpmi/partial/hdlist.plf.cz]
writing list file for medium "plf"
    examining pubkey file of "plf"...
...imported key caba22ae from pubkey file of "plf"
built hdlist synthesis file for medium "plf"
    found 0 headers in cache
removing 0 obsolete headers in cache
    write config file [/etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg]
    [root@localhost]#

So now I here list the EasyUrpmi with all options. The servers are those of UK though, you'll need to change them by hand if must. Also modify accordingly to your MDK version ->

    urpmi.addmedia plf ftp://ftp.free.fr/pub/Distributions_Linux/plf/mandrake/10.0 with hdlist.cz
    urpmi.addmedia updates ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/mandrakelinux/official/updates/10.0/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz
    urpmi.addmedia main ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/mandrakelinux/official/10.0/i586/Mandrake/RPMS with ../base/hdlist.cz
    urpmi.addmedia contrib ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/mandrakelinux/official/10.0/contrib/i586 with ../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist2.cz
    urpmi.addmedia jpackage ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/mandrakelinux/official/10.0/contrib/jpackage/i586 with ../../../i586/Mandrake/base/hdlist3.cz
    urpmi.addmedia club ftp://ftp.sunsite.org.uk/package/mandrakelinux/devel/testing/Mandrakeclub/10.0 with hdlist.cz

hope this helps in this dark hour

    cheers!

  13. 1st : as root write in terminal init 3 (I think this was it, you must kill X before continuing)

2nd : as root open the /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (try with emacs)

3rd : browse to where your monitor is in the file and manually change the frequency

    ---

True, this is somewhat crude, but you change the Hz :drum:

Maybe someone can give you a more elegant solution.

edit: or maybe you haven't told MDK what monitor you have?

go to MCC (hardware->monitor) and look if the right monitor is recognized.

maybe it's just 'plug 'n play' and not your particular model

p.s. MDK 10.1 is really nice

  14. I hate Gnome, Ubuntu logo and their philosophy behind.

But what I'd want in Mandrake is apt-get

    :lol2:

apt-get is the result of that very philosophy, for lack of a better word. :woot:

That doesn't mean I don't dislike the philosophy.

Besides I was targeting more towards that Ubuntu "all are equal" philosophy, not Debian

and Ubuntu is too nice (giving away free cd's) for my taste.:screwy:

  15. I have the same problem. KDE screensavers on MDK 10.1 Official

Simple screensavers work though, but the ones which require more graphical power...

I love the Illusions of Depth -> Bouboule screensaver and it works when I press the "test" button, but it doesn't start, or , if it (or another demanding scrsvr) starts, then only as a black screen of abyss.
