  1. how is it NOT related to Linux?

I was just pointing out that Firefox is a multi-OS program.

It runs on Linux, sure, but it also does on Mac, Solaris, Win and others. Open source isn't just Linux.

You said it yourself that many of your friends use it on Mac.

  2. Now that you remind me..

My system froze with a cd in the drive and it wouldn't umount or eject it.

I didn't want to reboot, so I just ran # fuser -km /mnt/cdrom *ducks*

The system immediately restarted (oh, the irony!).

So after that that particular partition and one more partition got some folders wiped out,

they were sent to lost+found with messed up filenames.

So I restored the folders and forgot about it. There were some partition errors, but MDK told me it had fixed them (probably didn't!)

And that's the first time I shut off (as shut down) the pc after those errors.

  3. Hello!

I was going out for a day and first time in many months decided to turn off my computer.

    Before that were only restarts.

So when I came back boot didn't mount one partition ->

(hdb_8) could not be mounted, boot went into loop.

I booted through Knoppix, it loaded, but didn't want to mount my hdb_8 partition.

Got my Mandrake to boot fully when I deleted the hdb_8 line from /etc/fstab

Below are some screenshots from the process

It appears that mcc recognizes that there is such a partition, estimates the correct size and everything else, except for mounting it. No matter what it didn't want to mount.

Said something like: couldn't read superblock (that was in Knoppix)

and MCC says -> mounting partition in directory failed _ invalid argument

All I want (don't we all) is for a moment to access my data, back it up on another partition and reformat my hdb_8

    help me!

  4. 9.1 was good and I liked it, it was also my first Linux distro,

9.2 was very buggy for me and I ditched Linux,

    10.0 CE brought me back.

10.0 OE had less bugs than CE and generally was more stable, proved to be a good workstation OS,

10.1 OE (didn't use CE) was with far less post-first_install bugs than all others and is the most stable and bugfree for me.

    so I voted 10.x

  5. reading this a question arose -> when do you start working on 2006 release?

Because it seems that you plan to do a year-between release cycle, but 2006 won't have a year in between, actually it's going to be out pretty soon.

So either 2006 has been in development for some 4 months or so, or it will get/is getting suspiciously small development time, especially if we take in mind the big changes Mandriva wants to introduce.

I have a feeling that 2006 will be pretty buggy.

  6. Krusader is very nice :)

Brings back memories of FAR and Total Commander

p.s. ark+unrar+unace worked on the default 10.1 installation for me, so I think it's safe to assume that it works with KDE 3.2.3 too (the ark version which comes with it)

  7. You see, the problem and my frustration now is that a few days ago I was inquired by one sysadmin if Linux can do symultaneous updates on a large network, what would be the right distribution that is easely remotely maintained and managed. I answered the best I could, but everything would have been a lot easier if I had this information you mention. Maybe even profitable for Mandrakesoft. I mentioned the MDK corporate server edition to him, but I couldn't say anything more than just some main stats.

After our talk he said he'll consider Fedora // Red Hat corporate.

Mandrake could really notice its' community more, interact with it and let the information flow from mouth to mouth. I think that would bring more clients than hopes on some sysadmins sending emails.
