is there a way to login with an account and have administrative rights besides login in as root? i'm the only one using this comp and when i login i feel restricted to what i can do with my standard login account. [moved from Tips & Tricks by spinynorman]

i just installed mandrake 10.0 and am running KDE 3.2. i am very new to linux and was wondering what the deal is with CD-ROMs. right now all i have on the desktop is home, welcome, and trash. i've found out how to add a CD-ROM shortcut but erros come up: is of type FSDevice but has no Dev=...entry. can someone please help me with this. as you can see i know nothing about linux and am trying to learn. thanks in advance. i'm very new to linux and so need some help. when i try to rename the icon is says access was denied. i'm not logged in as root and am not sure how to do that if that will fix it. any help would be great
