what the hell does that mean ? what is the answer to my question ?????

i have been having trouble connecting to the internet, but finally i have connected and a dialog box appears saying i am connected to the network, but when i try and use konqueror of mozilla the page never loads, as if i am not connected the internet ???? can someone please tell me what the hell might be going on ???? when i try and connect to gaim the same thing happens, it won't connect, but i am connected to my isp and the isp is working correctly, so i assume it is a connectiong problem on my computer ???? please help, thank you

i've been repeatedly frustrated ever since i left the comfort of the ethernet at college. I haved pinged my modem and it worked successfully, but when i try and connect a log page comes up and begins stating script and ends with No Carrier, what the hell does that mean , please help ?? thank you [edited by spinynorman]

If an ISP doesn't use login script to connect then what else would it use, and is login script primarily used ??? Basically i spoke with my ISP (Intergate), and they said they don't use login script but some of the tech people were wrong before. I was trying to search the site for information but couldn't find it, I was wondering if someone could check the site to see if i missed anything ?? thank you

i have an ISP which allows me to use high-speed access dial-up, but the software for the access itself isn't compatible with linux, so i used KPPP and plugged in the required fields, but my question is I need to use their high speed software correct ? and if so how do i install that so the connection is that fast ????? basically i know that i needed to plug in shit for KPPP to access the modem and the ISP, fine. But it seems i need to also install the high speed software, but where, how and with what if any program ???? thank you

i'm looking at the 56k v.92 for US robotics which looks fine, so basically i should plug the modem into my computer and KPPP should simply read and communicate with the modem and it is then ready, correct ?

i was already told about a good external modem, but i would like to get some more opinions. Does anyone know of any sweet external modems that are linux compatible and don't require compiling or other bullshit ?? thanks

hello, yes it is the query modem dialogue coming up empty and my modem is a 56k PCI data fax modem, probably for windows because that what was initially on the computer when i bought it but later removed to install linux mandrake which is most likely the problem ???? also i am selecting /dev/ttyS0 on the menu in KPPP which is the only setting that reads the modem, the others simply say modem busy or not present or some shit. gracias

first, iwould like to thank everyone for the help. I am using intergate as my ISP, simply www.intergate.com. The dialog box appears when i choose the modem, which has to be the right one since none of the others work, but when the dialog box appears no information is displayed, just empty boxes ?? gracias

i ask my isp providers if they are pap or chap and they keep telling me they are POP 3, what is the difference ?

I am trying to configure my KPPP to fit my ISP because they like most other ISP's don't offer support for linux. I chose the modem specified in KPPP and the computer read the modem supposedly but when the dialog boxes appeared no information was present in the boxes so i thought maybe i chose the wrong modem but i am not sure. Also could someone please explain what login script is and how do i know if my ISP uses it and how to create it for KPPP????? gracias
