  1. I recently installed MDK10 Official and it seems to have restared twice by itself. it seems to be restarting after being on for 3 days. These are the last entries before the reboot: Jun 2 07:01:01 localhost kernel: VFS: busy inodes on changed media. Jun 2 07:01:33 localhost last message repeated 16 times Jun 2 07:02:35 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:03:37 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:04:39 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:05:40 localhost last message repeated 30 times Jun 2 07:06:42 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:07:44 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:08:46 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:09:48 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:10:50 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:11:52 localhost last message repeated 31 times Jun 2 07:13:19 localhost syslogd 1.4.1: restart. And here I found something rather strange looking: Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : Security Warning: World Writable files found : Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/contents.rdf Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/freshStart.js Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/freshStart.xul Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/googlebarDragAndDrop.js Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/googlebarExtrasOverlay.js Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/googlebarExtrasOverlay.xul Jun 2 04:05:31 localhost : - /home/plui31/.mozilla/default/ug8xd03q.slt/chrome/googlebar/content/googlebarOverlay.js Please
  2. @polemicz: I tried run smbclient -L but I got" Connection to localhost. failed" when I tried to enter localhost:901, mozilla will try to search that through google. So I guess Samba isn't configred? localhost:631 gets me to the CUPS page. Thanks.
  3. 1. an old HP Lasertjet 4P 2. Win XP Pro 3.I think so. I just did a "ping 192.168.1.101 and I got the following 4. I'm not sure about this. How do I check? 5. I'm using gnome. I don't think I have konqueror but I tried it with Epiphany and I got "smb is not a registered protocol" 6. Yes the printer is shared already. I printed from another Windows machine before.
  4. Okay I filled everything in but it didn't work. Is there anything else that I could've missed?
  5. Do I need share name, user name & password? Thanks
  6. I've just installed the Official version of MDK 10.0. I went to Printerdrake and selected "Auto-detect printers connected to machines running Microsoft Windows". It said "No printer found". I then tried to turn on the Expert Mode option before I tried to add a new printer. I'm not sure what to put for "SMB server host", "SMB server IP", "Share name", "User name", "Password", "Workgroup". I've posted this on another forum and this is the reply I got: but i'm not sure about the following: SMB server host: would that be the computer i'm on or the windows computer? SMB serer IP:do I enter as you've written or the ip of the computer that's connected to the printer? Username:what if there's no login to the win machine? Thanks in advace :D [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]
  7. I needed to get the windows partition in working order before I can work on this...i'll post as soon as I've re-installed mdk & tried out all the suggestions above. Thanks!
  8. When I ran that, there's no output to the screen. It just went back to the prompt.
  9. No it didn't work :( I tried rtl8150, orinoco & orinoco_pci but it just jumped right back to "Manual Choice". I'd really hate to go back to Windows...
  10. It still jumps back to "Manual Choice" even when I try rtl8150
  11. Where do I choose "Expert Mode"? When I click on "Run Config Tool", I'll say "Choose the connection you want to configure". There, I chose "WIreless connection", then "Net Device: Manual Choice". Next I selected "orinoco_pci" but then it'll jump back to the "Net Device: Manual Choice" screen. From reading your tutorial, I'd need to find the manfid by using" cardctl ident". But I'm getting "no product info available" for both sockets. Where do I go from there?
  12. in MCC, it says "RTL8180 Realtek RTL8180 Wireless LAN (Mini-) PCI NIC, under Ethernetcard. On the site you've given, it says Mdk 10 already has it installed. Does that mean I don't need to install it again? I'm really new at this compiling source business. Therefore I try to stay away from it as much as I can...at least until I'm more comfortable with it.
  13. It just says Shutting down...then STarting...watching 2 sockets. There's no error message. See what?
  14. Hi, This is my very first post. Please bare with me...I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and a Linksys Wireless Card model WPC11ver. 4. I've read LiquidZoo's guide http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=5494 When I tried to do /sbin/cardctl ident, I got "no product info available" for both sockets. I've also read that i should try restarting it by using the command /etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmia restart but it didn't word neither. Could anyone ? Edit:Forgot to mention I just installed mdk10
