this might sound worng (tell me if it is) but what about just putting the mandrake cd's in and say upgrade current system? that way it wont replace newer packages with older ones (or will it?) and then it will write lilo an the end as it would on a fresh install

i have the same problem with 10.0 and 10.1 but not in 9.2, someone told me its the upgraded kernel, but thats purely speculation on my behalf!!

have you got the latest codecs for it and installed them? they can be found over at mplayer's homepage but get em fast as new patents are closing it down

i was just thinking, i remember back in the day when i used my first linux system (redhat 7.1) and i remeber how frustrating it was to get things working and how to find advice on it, mainly because i dint know anyone who used linux. would anybody be interseted in me writing a tutorial/help guide to getting up and running? i.e what programs to use to replace <insert application name here> let me know if its a worth while task garf

i have tried that and got no joy its not a porblem gettin the sound into my puter as its commin out of my speakers and i have not changed any leads etc since i had mandrake 9.2 on my puter, so its obviously a software thing. i have also used kmix to unmute the line in and when i move the faders up and down it changes the vlume of the sound, but audacity is not getting the sound for some reason the only thing i can think is that 10.1 has a newer kernel and that may have something to do with it, but i dont have any idea where to start looking for stuff like that

hi guys. im trying to do some recording on my puter with audacity the sound is comming into my puter via the line in and comming out via the speaker out put, the problem is audacity dosent seemt o get the sound it will record what amarok is playing but not whats going in, i have unmuted the inputs etc etc i dont get this problem with mandrake 9.2 any ideas guys?

ighty guys, im using audacity to record som home demos on me puter i currently have mandrake 10.1 ce , when i record on track on audacity its great, ther level is fine the quality is fine when i try to add another track the second track comes out wasy distorted, i made sure it wasnt the input as i used the smae amp both times without changing anythang can anyone offer me any help? ill put your name on teh cd when im famous!! garf

so ./configure --prefix=/usr on all the packages it needs?

ighty guys, another one that has got me flumuxed, i have been trying to install darksnow/darkince for streaming media (compatible with shoutcast), i install all the dependencies and it says that it dosent have gtk+ over 2, so i got all the source files and complied 2.4.9, but it comes up with the followng error configure: error: Library requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.4.0 atk >= 1.0.1 pango >= 1.4.0) not met; consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if your libraries are in a nonstandard prefix so pkg-config can find them. i have all the dependencies installed, can ony one help as im slowly running out of hair!! garf

hey,i just upgraded to mandrake 10 oe (download version), so far i found it was a good OS untill on major problem popped up when using any type of web browser to look at web pages its painfully slow, in a kinda of test i managed to get pages loading way faster on anold PII 350!! its not my net connection as gFTP is as fast as it ever was (if not faster). anybody heard of this or got any ideas? swing it my way if you have garf

just got it all workin :D had a lil trouble with the NAT and port 6881. but sorted that out pretty easily after iw orked out what it was doin. thanks for all your help guys

ok i followed the instructions jdion gave to install Azureus. i found if i dont tellk it where my java is (/usr/java/) then it works, if i tell t where it is then it dosent. When it does work i tried to get mandrake move .iso from mandrakes website, uts added to my list, but wont start downloading, any more ideas as im completely stumped on this one garf

i used mozilla firefox on mandrake 9.2, first off because i thought netscape was way too bulky. after a few hours of using it i was hooked, it was faster than my other browsers and had a great overall feel to it. being the kind of person i am, i decided to test firefox against IE on my other computer (athlon 850, 256 DDR, 40g hdd, XP pro) needless to say firefox ate it alive!! all thats needed now is for more people to use firefox and M$ will be have a big run for their money. as for thunderbird as prementioned, again kicked the living **** out of outlook/outlook express i could (like most linux users) rant on about how much linux kicks ass, but theres no need, we all know this!! garf

ok, i heard a lot of good things about bottorrent and the other client programs, heres the question. can anybody tell me how to get it workin? i followed the install instructions and tried to download a torrent file (mandrake 10.0 OE amongst others) but got nothing to put it simply HELP ME!!!!!!! thanks to anyone who can offer any help garf p.s i will be wanting to install it on mandrake 9.2 or 10.0 OE (when i get it)

what mirrors? i had a look about and cant find it and dont say the one that i comb my hair in every day garf

ighty, heres the problem(s) i downloaded the .iso images for mdk10CE, checked them all and burnt them to disk with nero 5, that was all fine. when i came to boot it wouldnt boot from the first cd, or second as this has already been offered as a solution. it will boot from my 9.2 disks. after no joy i opted to do a hard drive installation, i downloaded the tree as recomended adn pointed it to the location and it started to load, then after accepting the end user agreement i came up with a message along the lines of "cant find /lib/modules.cz-2.6.3-3mdkBOOT" sayong something about trying to make a newer boot disk, but i used the 8meg boot iso, i think that should be up to date enough. after a few tries i thought, ill try an ftp install, got it to load it into the memoery etc etc, then same error aftre the end user agreement. can anybody help me with this? garf
