  1. hey, I dont want to convert people to Nvidia, just want to pressure ATI to make drivers that work. maybe some aTi guy will see this.
  2. +IT was a joke............... But Macs do suck, they try to make it user friendly, but then it just plain sux and is unusable.... Windows is really functional compared to it. Really Windows isnt that bad besides it many security flaws.
  3. screw Nvidia, wait, I use an Nforce 2, I just cannot like Nvidia, ATI is just, you know, way more performance for your buck, 9600pro, I am not a psycho gamer, casual. If I were psycho, I still woudn't get an Nvidia, I would be getting a high end ATI.
  4. As far as MACs being user friendly, they aren't. They just plain suck. Look nice, but plain suck. Linux takes a little learning, but don't suck like Macs. I think if Macs had a right click, they would be good, but they dont.
  5. I have a nice card, a nice mobo, a nice CPU, a nice OS(MDK10), which I imagine would run 3d games better than WinXP(or am I wrong), and yet....
  6. dude, you must've heard this thing over a million times, no 3d acceleration, 2d is nice and dandy, but no 3d = no ut, and no ut mean... mean.... no ut.... yeah. Its self explanatory, i use a radeon 9600 pro. Why cant they just realease a driver that works once you go through the whole thing,... damnnit!
  7. good point, I just want to get really really fluent.
  8. Yes, I use ATI, and I am damn angry that I am not able to use 3d in Linux, Its possible, but I have not gotten it to work. moved by Ixthusdan

    SCO

Hey, I am here to learn, can someone explain to me this SCO/IBM/LINUX thing that is going on. Does SCO have a valid point, or are they chasing like the people who said they invented the hyperlink( or did they win that argument). Anyway, sounds really stupid, I want to hear your thoughts on it.
  11. HHmm.... What do I have to do to become a linux master? I am planning on learning C++, Java, Perl, and PHP(you love PHP), over the summer, I figure the first three would help me to become good at linux. I know hanging around this board would help too! But you see, I want to actually reap the goodness that Linux presents, and not have to kill myself over ATI drivers, which by the way, if anyone has a surefire way of doing it, please, PLEASE send me a message AIM: kaiocool Yahoo: kaiocool Email: kaiocool@yahoo.com you get the idea.... I think I should trademake kaiocool, I think I am one of the rare few that really stick with a true screen name. Anyway... So mastering linux what else to it? 12. I think the base route of the problem is this Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
  13. so I went through flgrxconfig, and then.. ut2004demo, and then... same problem.
  14. ok, I got the source code stuff in it, and then redid the installing of the driver RPM, I think it rebuilt the kernel by itself
  15. yeah i guess I have to do sometihng like that, becuase,. well I went to this site http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4484.html, and that sh command worked as su, but then I got an error message
  16. ok, when I try to ./make.sh in the directory it tells me, as su, i get permission denied.... UGH~!
  17. Ok through set up, I got here [root@localhost Documents]# rpm -Uh --force fglrx-4.2.0-3.7.6.i386.rpm ########################################### [100%] ########################################### [100%] *** Trying to install a precompiled kernel module. *** WARNING *** Tailored kernel module for fglrx not present in your system. You must go to /lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod subdir and execute './make.sh' to build a fully customed kernel module. Afterwards go to /lib/modules/fglrx and run './make_install.sh' in order to install the module into your kernel's module repository. (see readme.txt for more details.) As of now you can still run your XServer in 2D, but hardware acclerated OpenGL will not work and 2D graphics will lack performance. failed. *** Error: no kernel module build environment - please consult readme. *** Warning *** The QT based control panel application did not load in any version. === ATI display drivers successfully installed please run 'fglrxconfig' now === [root@localhost Documents]# sooo, i gues i hav eto do that kernel thingamabober heres what the ati site says, http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4475.html
