  1. is there a way to force a disk scan... everytime i properly terminate a program in X aka pressing the x button on the window, it gives me a crash window, as if the program crashed, i dont understand this it has never happened before...

    it is like any program that receives the term signal give a crash message, cause when i restart, many programs give me the message as it is shutting down...

  2. is there a way to get it intagrated into the configure desktop function? or do i always have to run it from a terminal, and do i have to run that command every time i restart, i did find a FAQ that told me to make a file in my autostart dir, (~/.kde/autostart) with the name xscreensaver.desktop, and contain the following lines:

    [Desktop Entry]
    Exec=xscreensaver
    Name=XScreensaver
    Type=Application
    X-KDE-StartupNotify=false

    not sure what this does please tell me,,,

  3. I'm trying to figure out exactly what this is all about?

    this is what i got when i restarted it, however i am now talking to you through my linux machine, is there any reason i get this failed message? but the device still works? i also get this message in startup...

  7. i have never actually looked at the fstab file before, where is it? i would like to check it out...

    ya, i have no problems running mandrake none of those problems seem to manifest themselves when i get to gui mode. As far as i know i am up to date with all the updates, what is "dm" by the way....

  8. i get several failures at startup. one is at "Mounting all file syetems" if fails, but it says that there are too many filesystems and that may be because i have so many harddrives, next is "eth0" it fails, but it does work once mandrake is up and running b/c i can get on the internet, and last is "dm" isnt this the display manager?, well i dont know why this fails either but it does, if it means display manager, i do boot up to a GUI and X works, so... is there any way to fix it? or should i just leave well enough alone

  9. i wanted to know if there is a way to get grub to be able to boot my raid drives. Currently i have mandrake on one of my ide partitions (see my signature for full details) and i have windows on my on board ATA 133 raid controller, i have several other partitions, and they all show up in grub as win_c win_d, but those are just other ide partitions, i would be able to boot to those partitions via grub, but is it possible to get grub to boot the raid drives?
